Thoughts on a few Razors.

I have bought and sold a few razors over the last few months, and I have really liked my Razorock Razor with the .86 plate and the Henson Medium ++. I was really disappointed in the Fatip Gentile and OC. As beautiful as they are. They really have not solved the alignment problem. My blades were askew and if not that the reveal was different on both sides. Seems like a solder issue. I would gladly pay $10.00 more if they would just solve that. Not worth the screwing around early in the morning.

Any thoughts on the Edwin Jagger / Muhle Razors? Or the Phoeniz (PAA) Razors? Not sure who manufactures them. I might add that I have very course black / grey whiskers. Shave every 2-3 days.

Take care Gents!

It might be a variability issue. The first slant I tried was the Razorock German slant. It was a disaster. You could put your finger on the corner of the blade and rotate it several degrees. With a slant, that can be disastrous.

My Fatip Open comb slant might have one or two degrees of rotation, but it generally aligns perfectly.

The Yaqi Melon open comb that I purchased aligns the blade perfectly. I am done buying razors, but I think that Yaqi could do a very good job with a slant.

I would try the Edwin Jagger or Muhle razors, both are enjoyed by many here. I suggest a vintage Gillette NEW Short Comb (SC) or the Long Comb (LC) if you enjoy a little blade feel but still want smooth. Either can be found in nice condition for little cost.

I prefer not to do business with PAA. Plenty has been written on B & B about the reasons why.

My first “proper“ DE razor (after a black plastic Wilkinson Sword classic) was an Edwin Jagger DE89. I don’t use it as often now but it’s in my travel wash bag and I have gone away a few times this year with some more trips planned. I still enjoy using it. I have a lot of muscle memory using the DE89 and it feels effortless every time.
I rate it quite highly especially with a Nacet or Feather blade.

I‘ve owned a Mühle R41 since 2016. It’s one of my favourite razors to use and I first used it on a month old beard. It was so efficient mowing that rubbish off of my face I was impressed from first use.

So… based on those I’d recommend Edwin Jagger and Mühle.

Bear in mind that the blade edges SHOULD NOT run parallel to the cap (for the majority of slants) but SHOULD run parallel to the baseplate/guard edges.

So many people get lousy slant shaves because they've forced the blade out of its correct alignment (and made it run parallel to the cap).

The ones I described are not slants.
