Ever Ready 150 restore

Thanks to otto76, I had a cream over red Everready to restore at a very reasonable price. I think this has to be one of the nicest vintage brushes both in color and design. I put a TGN finest 26mm with a 52mm loft. I was a bit hesitant about putting such a large knot into this because I had to remove about a quarter inch of the top of the brush and risked changing the contours of the design I liked so much. I think it came out well though and preserved enough of the lines to make it recognizable. This was also, by far, the largest restore knot i've ever used. I used it for this morning's shave and was impressed. The finest knots have boar-like backbone and super soft tips.

What did you use to make the hole biger?
I used a Black and Decker "Dremel" tool with a cone shaped grinding tip to cut away most of the material at the bore. When I finished doing this I had a bore of about 26mm. I felt like I had too little material at the top of the handle, the wall thickness looked too fragile to support a large knot. I turned the handle upside down on a sheet of coarse sandpaper and ground away about a quarter inch of material from the top of the handle. That's the part that made me nervous because I didn't know how it would look after I finished. This handle pinches in at the top so it does not leave much wall thickness if you want a large knot, but just below the top the handle flairs out nicely.

Ok that seams like a good way to get the work done . I ve got a Dremel like tool and some grinders that i think will work. I only have to take away about 2mm from the handle to fit the new knot (22mm TGN), The handle has some moulding edges I will try to grind them out with some sandpaper and then polish the hadle. this is my first restore and the handle is beutiful and the knot is fine so I dont want to mes this up.

Remember, failure just tells you what not to do next time!:biggrin1:
Good luck and please post pics when you're finished.
