ever get what I call Proraso Lip?

From the cream being on you lips while shaving they start to affect the surface or the epithelium of the lips. I tried today wiping my lips clean after lathering and before shaving and this helped but I still ended up with mild Proraso lips. Next time I will cover my lips with a balm before lathering to see if this works.

I know that. I sometimes get small irritations (small pimple) on the edge of the upper lip and it happens only when using Proraso soap. I think the mentol dries the lip more than other creams or soaps I use.

I always wipe the lather from any soap/cream off my lips prior to shaving. I see no need to keep it on there; I mean, you're not shaving your lips, right?!

just feels weird...

Yeah...the lips have a high concentration of nerve endings, and the skin is very thin. Thus, one will tend to feel the effects of any ingredient that has any sort of numbing, cooling or heating effect (menthol, benzocaine, those "hot towel" type pre-shaves, etc.) more noticeably on the lips than elsewhere. That's comletely normal.

I have noticed the cream drying on my upper lip rather quickly, but I've never noticed any thing bad about it. I just hit it with some water and its gone.

Ha, I've got this 'problem' too. I didn't know for sure what it was from (new to the whole wetshaving/DE thing, ya know) whether it was from the badger hairs or from the Proraso. Usually try wiping it off after I lather and put some lip balm on afterwards to sooth the feeling. It just feels like they are chapped really bad.

So THAT'S what that is. I have noticed this from time to time . . . I had kind of written it off as a little minor razor burn on my lip from trying to get those little hairs by my lip. But irritation from the Proraso makes more sense, because I'm really not touching my lip with the razor. I'll pay more attention next time.

Just take a wet wash cloth and dab away the cream from your lips before you get to the shave. I live in a really dry climate and have found that many creams and soaps can have a "lip effect'. Heck, just the dry Nevada air can make your lips react. So, I use my wet wash cloth from the face soak to dab my lips. Seems to keep them from getting any ill effects.

Is that Ayn Rand? Not to get political on such a friendly forum, but she was wrong on just about everything, i.e. Objectivism, laissez-faire markets. IMHO. Although I admit that quote has some validity to it. Just my 2 cents.

Hmm...I'm not seeing the connection between that and what this thread's about. Care to tie it in for us?

Sure. CzechCzar's signature has this quote and a question "...can you guess who said this..." That was my guess. I'm pretty sure it is Ayn Rand, but somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry for the off-topic digression, but I like trivia. :001_cool:

Ah, now I get it. I wasn't paying close attention to signatures.

I don't get that from Proraso (I even use the pre/post shave stuff daily), however recently I bought some JM Fraser's Polar Ice cream (I use the original JMF all the time with no problems) and after my first shave with it I noticed my lips were burning and noticeably inflamed. I'm not sure what they put in that stuff, but my face had an almost burning sensation for the rest of the day. I haven't tried using it since, maybe I'll give it another go just to see if it happens again.

I'm guessing it's some kind of allergic reaction to certain ingredients.
