What's new

Ever changed mind after shave test?

I have been preparing some razors that I will make available for sale soon. During the shave test of a JA Henckels #80 I changed my mind about selling it. I have shaved with it a oouple times before but didn't think it was that special but today I took it out and polished out some of the stains with MAAS and touched it up on the 12k then did a little shave test on several different areas of my face and WOW!!! It feels almost Filly smooth and to be honest is better than some that cost me 5 x the amount.
Anyway, I think I will keep this one now!

More times than I care to count. It's gotten to the point where I've realized that the shave is 60% honing, 10% blade style, 30% prep/technique and 0% manufacturer. So it's a lot rarer now. When a blade wows me with the test shave I know that it's nothing special with the blade, I just got the honing done "just right". It makes me stick with the honing technique I used for awhile, not the blade.

Definitely.

I had test shaved one razor that didn't particularly wow me, not bad, but no great shakes either. I didn't want to sell it in ho- hum shave condition, so I gave it another workover on the hones.

Well, I've now been using that razor for the last two weeks straight, and it has been giving me unusually close and comfortable shaves with no sign of letting up.

As said above same razor, different honing made a dramatic difference.
