Escher/Thuringian love. show of your rocks

I had the same question as SOL. That barber's cut has a very unique look to it. I really like the pattern on that stone. Wondering if that came from Peter or is a vintage stone?

The cloudy gray blue stone is a vintage Antique ship find. I believe it is a Droescher based off the box that came with the stone. Label was missing, but I’ve compared it to known Droescher stones with box intact and there are clear similarities. I also have the original matching slurry stone.

Nice addition to the den, a 7 inch banded Yellow Green Escher that came from the estate of a retired barber. The label is only held on by a few small spots of glue. Amazed the paper survived this long before landing in my hand. Now I am on the fence, lacquer the label to the stone or build a box, then remove and store the paper in the lid under lexan

Nice score. I’m not crazy about laquer personally. I’d carefully remove the label if you can and enjoy the feel of the stone.

This one looks to be in perfect shape. It doesn’t look like the good barber used it much. He must have been saving it for best.

The chances are good that label will live inside the lid of a custom stone case just like its cousin’s pictured. It popped off with little effort. I will only use lacquer as a last resort. I have a second 6” Y-G that need a home also. The cherry on top is a 4” banded stone that will sacrifice itself to become matching rub stones for both

Snagged this stone out of a lot for a decent price. Was oil-crusted and is probably the second worst abused Thuringian I've seen... but after I pulled it from the simple green a nice blue green was revealed, and Thuri's are the DMT's best friend, so a few minutes later I had a smooth working surface.

Top is an old stone, DB, Second from top, same, Then a new arrival labeled Celebrated that I assumed was DB, but it actually looks borderline DB/BG to me after lapping. It's brown/skin on the label side... and there were some of those brown freckles on the blue side like I showed on that crazy stone a few months back. Most of them I lapped through, but there's a dusting still.

Then a LG/BG mix stone and a BG I've owned, One LG I owned, and a new arrival 5x1.5" Labeled escher that I would call Y/G. And finally a new arrival Fox extra soft 44.

On the left are a labeled Estima black thuri and a new arrival, also a black thuri, no label. Probably the same/similar origin... a carving kit (the 4x1" seem to mostly be from those sorts of kits).

Just finished lapping this green 10 x 2 thuringian. It’s only a 1/4” thick and needs a backing of some kind. Does anyone know if other companies besides Escher produced 10 x 2 thuringians?

I strongly doubt there were any other 10x2's, but the challenge to prove a negative and all.

10x2" bbw wouldn't be cheap. I'd just buy a 12x12" slate or similar tile at the hardware store if a backing is needed... Or work up a wooden stand like they put Jnats on for it.
