Entry level dovo worth it?

is it worth it to get the pre-sharpened entry level dovo that sells for around $100? i see similar desigs from companies like DOVO and theirs issard. iam wondering if the case what i pay for is what i get fully applies. What i've noticed is the $100 dovo is very plain but when u go higher in price u no longer have plastic scales and u now have gold and decorated spines. This kinda leads me to thinking the ones priced higher are gonna give the same results as the $100 dovo but will simply look nicer.

Btw iam just comparing the 5/8 hollow grounds with the same tip from dovo (and Theirs Issards) not comparing other types of razors.

The Dovo will still need to be honed before you can use it. My recommendation would be to buy a second hand shave ready straight. Much cheaper. Have a look at B/S/T for a deal and don't forget the strop.

If you're looking for bang for the buck the basic model is always the way to go whether it's a razor or a new car. The blade will be the same quality. Spend more you get decoration, larger blade, heavier blade fancy scales.

If you don't get a strop, don't get a razor. A razor spends more time on a strop than it does on your face.

You can get a cheaper Dovo as sharp as their more expensive models. Edges are made by the end user, not the factory. Having said that, their higher priced models would (or at least should) show better fit and finish, and come adorned with fancier scales and nicer filework and etchings, but no sense in starting with a pretty blade that you'll likely scuff up before you learn the ropes.

If you buy from a place like www.thesuperiorshave.com it will come truly shave ready at no extra charge and ship for free. If you find that you enjoy straight razor shaving, there will be another blade in your future (and another and another), so keep it simple at the beginning.

this is what iam afraid of... i just want to get ONE razor and be done with it, too many guitars... too much camera gear... too much of everything :( but iam gonna go with the dovo presharpened from the superior shave with strop with the ebony scales, atleast i wont get the itch for another razor for a while (one can hope)

The "silver steel" with ebony scales? That's a pretty good looking razor. :thumbup1:

You'll find them a very nice place to do business with.
