What's new

English Leather

Does anyone know anything about this brand? Are they still around? If so, do they make quality products now? I have a bottle of 111 ml English Leather Aftershave and English Leather cologne, both from my grandfather's collection. The packaging consists of rectangular bottles with wooden lids. No scent is listed on either, but the aftershave is pretty nice. (haven't tried the cologne yet).

Oh yes, still around. Several drug and grocery chains carry it. I bought a bottle of AS a while back to go down memory lane.... Still a nice leathery scent although some have written it was reformulated several years ago. But who cares, still a classic scent that I splash on every once in a while.

English Leather was a very popular mass merchandise men's fragrance in the mid-late 1960's. Every 13 year old boy wore this to their first coed party (at least I did).

It's still available, don't know about brick and mortar stores but it is available on Amazon. I'm curious of what other think about it though.

You can still find both at Walgreens, and TJ Maxx types of places. You'll get mixed reviews of the scent, but they're pretty inexpensive so you kind of get what you pay for as far as that goes. The AS seems to work pretty well as far as I'm concerned, about middle of the road or slightly above in all areas. Sometimes I'll splash on a little AS, then top it off with Tabac EdC (Oh boy, let's see what comments come from that:lol:)

I like the aftershave a lot. The Dana version of the cologne can be kind of cloying, but I remember the older version being nicer. The bottles you have sound like they're made by MEM--you have something nice on your hands. Enjoy!

I still have .25 of a 2 oz. vintage bottle of MEM Co. English Leather cologne, I guess from the '80s or late '70s. Back in those days it smelled leathery, with some citrus, to my nose mostly orange with a nondescript hint of spice. As far as leather goes, it's definitely all there. You want it, you got it with EL. The only thing out there that seems to rate as highly with that old leather smell is Creed's Royal English Leather, which is like the opposite end of the price spectrum and seems a tad absurd to me in that regard.

Lately there's a reformulation that is soapier smelling to me. Not real sure though how the aftershave rates.

Wally World carriles it but don't look for it in the mens shaving supply area. It's located in the perfume section of the cosmetics isle. I was able to snag a couple of sample size bottles from an onlilne vendor for .99 ea about a year back. Forget the name of the vendor though.

My high school girlfriend gave me a bottle as a gift. She rode horses (English, of course) and liked the association. Recent found some in Walmart and bought it for a trip down memory lane!!!

what stores do you find the AS in? I can't locate it anywhere

I've checked out walmart and walgreens before with no luck. I can find the cologne with no problem--it's the AS that eludes me

I found an EL "gift set" in Rite-Aid at 50% off - in January - for $5.00 - a small bottle of AS & one of cologne.

and a similar set with Canoe!

...a trip down Memory Lane, believe me....

Now I just need to run into a certain woman who'll be wearing Wind Song (by Prince Machiebelli [sp?]) ...and we will be dancin' to Tommy James & the Shondells. (Fast - the Skate - to Mony Mony; slow to Crimson & Clover - both Teen Towne faves in 1968...)

YOWSA!

Great scent!! One of my faves. Old school but IMO still holds its own. A bit synthetic out of the bottle so don't go by that alone. Big citrus burst up front and dries down to a nice mossy / woody / leather accord.
