What's new

Ej de89l

I have just returned home from 2 weeks away to find an EJ DE89L waiting for me. I bought it due to all the hype surrounding this razor. Surely it's not that good?

Loaded it with a Gillette 7 o'clock yellow blade which has been used 'several' times and went for the shave WTG and XTG using MWF. Well the results were startling. The razor is very easy going (I am a daily slant 39C driver) and the results were amazing. I have heard this thing called the RAD killer, but never believed it possible with something so similar to the 34HD. I am truly blown away, this thing mows the whiskers away with zero burn, it is cartridge razor forgiving, with DE results. I would even go as far to say for my face it beats the slant!

Now has this killed my RAD.... hmmmm maybe not, there is a Gillette NEW with my name on it out there somewhere, but this is the best argument for RAD abatement I have come across to date. WOW!

I got mine a few days ago and I absolutely love it. I had planned on getting a few other razors to try, but with the shaves that I'm getting after getting my technique down, I can't think of a reason to even look for a new razor anymore.

This razor has a lot of good press because it is good. I have it's close relative, the DE86 and it's a wonderful shaver as well.

I have a Mühle R89, which is a clone of Edwin Jagger DE89L (same head and slightly different handle) and I simply don't feel the need for another razor.

Ditto that. I have a Mühle R89 too and it is a fantastic razor, very mild and forgiving on the skin, yet shaves fantasticly close.

It's become one of my two favorites. I HAVE stopped using the others except for them. It is one of the best values out there today. However, if you have noticed, there have been a few up for sale recently. It's not as mild as many vintage gillettes, and may be to aggressive for some.

I hope they keep showing up on the B/S/T. I'll eventually have the money for one. My list of modern razors that I'd like to own is very small. I want:

An EJ DE89L (or a Muhle - I'm torn a bit between them)
A Feather All Stainless
A Merkur 39c Sledgehammer Slant

I've had my Muehle R89 for a few weeks and I can't quite get it to work out. The only real blades I have are the Israeli Crystals though. They just drag on my beard with the Muehle and I can't get a clean, unirritated shave.

Well, I may have just picked one up off the B/S/T. Still waiting for response from seller to be sure if I got it. I almost dropped the the hammer on one from TESC awhile back, but held up since I decided to go with a 38C Merkur instead. I still plan to get the Merkur as well, but with all the good things I have heard about the EJ's I couldn't resist the temptation, and upon opening up B&B this morning and seeing another one listed it had to be a sign, and it pushed me over the RAD edge.

What is the difference between an 86 and 89? I own both and can't tell the difference. The heads seem identical. I do love it and will buy several more to make sure I have plenty if they stop making them at some point.

The EJ89L wasn't love at first shave with me - lovely to look at, but found it harder to manoeuvre than my other razors and picked up quite a few nicks as a result.

Finally found the key last week in making a slightly thinner lather than I would with my open combs, and paid a bit more attention to angle. Had a week of excellent shaves, but have switched back to a NEW for this week.

Edwin Jagger DE86 has an ebony black resin handle.
Edwin Jagger DE87 has an ivory white resin handle
Edwin Jagger DE89 has a chrome plated slick handle.
Edwin Jagger DE89L has a chrome plated handle with extruded lines.

Mühle R89 has a nice chrome handle with an extremely fine engraved finish.
Mühle R106 features a polished black handle.

All of these razors share the same head, the only thing that is different is the handle. They are "clones" with different handles.

I thought so, but I was beginning to doubt myself. Thanks!
