EJ DE89L vs Chatsworth

I thought I read somewhere that the only difference between these two razors is the handle and that the head is exactly the same.

Can anyone confirm whether this is correct or not? I'd hate to lay out the money for a Chatsworth if it is just a matter of getting a new handle.

I just went to the EJ website and this is what it had to see about the Chatsworth razors:

"Fitted with the latest precision Edwin Jagger DE blade head which has created great interest among experienced wet shavers."

So, I guess it does come down to a handle...

I'm not 100% certain. I can say this, though; if the head on the Chatsworth is different, there's absolutely no way it's better than the one on the DE89L. That razor has the finest modern production head, in my opinion.

I have both and mine appear to shave exactly the same. The Chatsworth has the nicer/heavier handle then the DE89L, but they both shave the same with the same blade. Considering that the Chatsworth costs over twice what the DE89L does, I'm not sure if the additional cost is worth it. They are both nice looking, well made razors.

I purchased the Chatsworth before I got the DE89L. My original thinking before RAD set in was to use the Chatsworth at home and the DE89L in my travel kit. After RAD that never happened. I use a Feather Portable in my travel kit now and one at home with a LUX SS handle. The Portable that I am using shaves slightly smoother/closer and more maneuverable then both of the EJ's with any blade I use.

I'm a fan of the DE89L and its derivatives. It's a nimble razor and gives moderate shaves in terms of aggression. The Chatsworth is heavier and that can be a plus for shaving. The question is what are you looking for in a razor?

All the Jagger's do indeed use the same head. The main reason I would go for the DE89l over the Chatsworth is the balance of the razor feels much better in hand. Other than that they will give very similar results with a little adjustment in technique.
