Were they the micronised blade or the one with platinum sputtered edges?
I haven't tried the Topaz but I was not enamoured with the Laser Ultra blades. The blades were not sharp, although they they were still usable.

Check my thread "Feather, measure of all blades" I have tried them both.
If you want a good, cheap blade then I think you can't go passed the Shark blades. Both the Stainless and Super Chrome are very decent.
Yes, you can find Shark blades for less than 10 cents a blade if you are diligent. Even if you can't, they are one of the more cost effective blades out there and they shave quite well.
Be warned, stay away from Zorrik blades!
