early Single Ring from 1905?

this old Lady has found her way to me. But I´m wondering: I though the Single Ring comes in 1906. But the SN 337 905 will date him to 1905. So my question: what´s the oldest SN of a Single Ring that you know?

I will look through my single rings when I get home. I could swear I had one that started with '3', but the mind is a wonderful, tricky thing. Probably a 'B'.

Nice case by the way and I find it remarkable how well Single Rings retain their silver plating like this one has.

I've got a Single Ring from 1906. Is there any chance that the razor you have, Achim, could have a mismatched inner barrel for the handle? I don't own a Double Ring, but I would assume that the inner barrel of a Double Ring would fit in the handle of a Single Ring. If, however, the inner barrel of a Double Ring couldn't fit a Single Ring handle, then my suggestion is irrelevant.

Achim. The oldest SR I have is a 395005 in a Times Square case. That puts it very early in 1906 and probably before the June 1906 introduction date. But I have seen 1 or 2 1905 dates from forum posts maybe 4 or 5 months ago. The same question was raised then.

I found the old thread.

T_Rick had a Single Ring with a 1905 288248 serial number in a Double Ring case. At the time we all surmised the handle tube probably belonged to a Double Ring. No way to know of course.

thanks - that was a nice catch for only 35 EUR.

I just asked in a post about when did they switch locations of serial numbers, I know that the early, single and double rings both had serial numbers on the knob shaft. when did single rings switch serial no. locations to the guard top?

my double ring starts with a 2, makes it fit into 1905, right before yours. You may have a switched knob, because 1905 is real early for a single ring to come in. Maybe you have the prototype and it could be worth like 60 thousand dollars! you never know

Yep, my mind failed me, I wish I had my "collection" online. The earliest single ring I have is a 1906 (639310).

My single ring came in the mail today..no pat.date or pat pend. The serial# on the stem is 337100. 1905? No case with this one, just the razor.

In a book I'm reading they mentioned the single ring in 1905.
Now back to the date code Oldguy mentioned, I have a "slim ball end" with date code 280868 I know that's a bit early for that date code... does anyone have any clue about it?

Is the same one I got with the gunmetal shell pattern case.

Hey Ozzy, how confident are you about the serial number? Is it really clear? My guess is that the handle is not original but even the first ABC sets came out in 1907. You're talking about 1905. Can you post a photo of the cap and guard with the serial number?

Len

The more sets we see the better idea we have of the history of these early razors. Krumholz didn't have the benefit of ebay and all the razor enthusiasts we have here. That was proven in the info we have now on the Regent Tech.

This is a great place.

That's what I was thinking, the date is too early for that model, now Jake has what I would say the same model than mine, with date code 328... and also with the square tooth, instead of the older round shape ones.
Here's a pic of the razor, compared to older models.

OK, Ozzy. It's probably not a US serial number and maybe Canadian like Jake's. I wish I had a serial number date list for Canadian razors.
