dull blade, mach 3 quickie, INGROWNS!

So, i was shaving with my DE, second shave on an Astra platinum.. wasn't cutting it, literally. Picked up the wife's mach 3, and finished the job. Being a wet newbie (first DE on sept 12th this year) and now paying much more attention to my shaves, was impressed on the mindlessness of the mach, but also sorely disappointed on the closeness. Long and the short of it.... I had at least a dozen ingrowns on my neck the next day. I've not had ingrown hairs for a long time......

did I just mess up my face by 'mach'ing it?

That's what it sounds like. But let's get back to that Astra - is it possible that your angle was off? Astras are pretty good blades, and I have a hard time imagining one that simply isn't cutting hair on the second shave.

angle, mabye. in a rush, mabye, just finished my VDH and switched to Williams, mabye... lemon of a blade? mabye..

was more curious if anybody has ever experienced bad results by "regressing" after getting adjusted to DE shaving. I used to think that I was getting a close shave, but with a DE and a good (feather, currently) blade, i can shave every other day and still be smoooooth.
