Dry Skin After Shower

I'm not so much looking for the reason why as I understand that it's because the water and soap is washing away the oils on my skin. My question is what can I do about it in terms of products? Even after I use after shave balm on my face, it's still rather tight, even on the areas that don't touch a blade.

Another thing you may consider is the temperature of the water. I really liked hot water while showering but noticed how dry my skin was later. Changed the setting of my water heater so I get just warm water. It was another factor that helped with my dry winter skin.

I had the same problem, a Doctor told me to use "Moisturel Therapeutic Lotion".
I did, and it worked well.

+1 Winter can be a handful in the beginning.

My skin is much less dry if I use a good moisturizing body wash instead of soap. My current favorite is Aveeno:

The first ingredient (after water) is glycerin. The stuff has great moisturizing qualities and doesn't strip out as much of the natural oils from my skin.

EDIT: most of the soaps that have been a problem for me I've since learned have a reputation for being somewhat drying and harsh, such as Kirk's Castile, Ivory and Dove. I haven't used the fine artisan soaps made by Michelle at Mystic Waters, which are high in shea butter content and are supposed to be much less drying.

Sounds like you are sensitised to an ingredient in your shower gel or soap. Ask your pharmacist for advice. I would steer towards the natural or hypoallergenic products. I find that mild skin sensitive bar soaps can be better for your skin than shower gels. I know about this as it happened to me. Apply with a sponge rather than soap directly onto the skin so you can also more easily control the amount of soap you apply using bar products. You could also try just using the soap on the areas that need to be washed regularly - I do not apply soaps to my arms, legs or shoulders every time I shower unless dirty, which prevents my dry skin from reoccurring.

You can actually also end up washing too much for what is good for your skin. Much obviously depends on your work, lifestyle and climate. Can you get away with washing in a basin as opposed to showering more often? Don't shower more often than you need to stay clean and not smell! You'll save money on the water heating too.

One thing you could do different is adjust the temperature of the water. Your probably showering with the temperature of your water too hot.

I have the same issue in the winter months. This has solved my problem.

If I have to take regular showers due to work, I tend to only use soap / gel to wash the areas that get sweaty such as under arms etc and just use water on my arms and legs with no gel.

So just an update. It appears as though using the Lubriderm daily and not using the $l-real-men-expert-hydra-energetic-daily-purifying-wash-with-charcoal.jpg and switching over to a sensitive skin Nivia wash seems to help alot.
