What's new

dry cleaning for tough spots?

Hi.

I have a shirt that I can't get rid of some stains on. It's been washed several times without effect. Could it help to have it dry cleaned? I havenever had anything dry cleaned so I have no idea on if it's better for tough spots than normal washing

it could be the stains have set in the fabric and can't be removed. a dry cleaner might work but I don't think it'll be a guaranteed solution. I thrifted a shirt 2 months ago that looked brand new, but it had a slight brown discoloration on the chest pocket. the dry cleaner did a pretty good job and the spot isn't noticeable to the untrained eye, but I know it's still there

If if has been washed, the stains might be set. However, see if a little Amodex might help. I've kept a bottle handy for years because it works miracles with fountain pen ink. I've found it useful with other tough stains, too.

If you've wash and dried it that stain is set for life.

if you stain something pour cool water on it immediately and dab (not rub) as much of the stain out.

When you get home look up the way to remove that particular stain from that particular fabric, follow the method, always use cold water. If you can't find a method for removing your stain try oxy clean and cold water of a tide bleach pen. I would try both on a part of the garment that no one sees first as it might have a side effect.

Thanks all. Sounds like it might not be worth trying out the dry cleaner. I actually just tried spraying the stain with my bike chain cleaner and hand washed it afterward (desperate actions). It actually seemed to work and the stain is barely visible anymore :001_smile
