Dropped my razor

I’m stumped
Bad start to the day. I dropped my 5/8 Dovo when opening to strop.
Had just got out of bed and was still half asleep. normally strop after I have a shower but this morning was before.
I jumped back and let it fall. It landed on the round point so was thinking the edge would be fine.
Quick check using the light showed about 3 - 5mm at the tip needs to be honed. TNT confirmed. Tried a few strokes on the strop but stopped after a few as it was scratching the strop.
Think the impact has damaged the edge not from direct contact with the cutting edge but the presure of the point hitting the floor.
never mind.... hone it is, a least I got out of the way from the falling blade.

Good move to let it hit the floor. Human nature is if you drop something to catch it. I wasn't thinking when I dropped a DE blade and I caught it and you don't want to hear the rest of THAT story.

If it didn't need a hone, the TNT would have done it. Oh well, at least it could be easily fixed. Most of us have done it at least once.

Good that you didn't catch it. The Captain is right I would have thought about it if I didnt know the don't catch a falling razor rule. If your rehoning it and its minor I bet the edge will be even better than it was before. I dropped one of my favorites in the sink when I bumped a shelf that it was sitting on. Once rehoned I felt like the edge was better and lasted longer. Some good will come of the accident.

This happened to me a while back, with a Dovo 5/8ths nonetheless. I also let it fall and mine was luckily undamaged. Good job staying safe and I am sure it will come out fine as others have stated. I'll bet that woke you up quick huh?

yes I woke up very quickly after it hit the floor.
The get out of the way of falling sharp object is well instaled in my auto reaction.
Have worked in the meat industry. Seen to may guys try and catch falling knifes with ugly results. They are told not to do it yet the odd one still does.
Not worth it let it fall and step back to avoid cutting other body parts on the way down..........
on the plus side I now have a razor to hone as I do enjoy honing.
