DR Harris or Trumper's?

I'm going to put an order in this week from QED. I don't have any non-tallow soaps and I'd like to give a few a try. In addition to a QED brand soap, I'm going to pick up a refill puck of either a DR Harris soap or GFT.

Can you guys help me decide between the Harris and GFT? Is one superior to the other?

I'm considering either the DR Harris Marlborough, or GFT's coconut, sandalwood, or violet. Opinions welcomed.

I believe that Marlborough indeed is a tallow soap.

I don't use sandalwood, but I absolutely endorse GFT Coconut Oil, Rose, Limes, and Violet.

Also - the Harris Arlington and Marlborough are sorta great, too - though Tallowicious!

I just checked the Wiki and you're right. Thanks for setting me straight.

Is the QED soap so superior to Col. Conk soaps that I should stick with ordering from QED? If I go with a Col. Conk soap, I'd have a lot more choices through West Coast Shaving.

I guess that you aren't getting the wooden bowl, so this point may be moot, but the trumpers bowls are wider and as a result less messy than the Harris bowls. And their sandalwood is my personal favorite, for scent and performance.

I think I'm going to order a QED Lime and a GFT Sandalwood. I have a tub of TOBS Rose, so I have a floral. The citrus is covered by the QED Lime (and to some extent my TOBS St. James), so I'd like to try my first "woodsy" one.

I heard that tallow can clog pores. Since I've been using soaps instead of creams, I've had a bit of acne. I want to try a soap without tallow and see if it makes a difference for me. I was interested in trying PdP, but I heard shea butter also clogs pores.

I was disappointed by the scent of GFT Sandalwood soap. It's not very woodsy at all, more of a flowery, fresh soap scent. It changes when you lather it up but even then it doesn't get close to being woodsy IMO.

I would go for Dr Harris. Either Arlington or Marlborough. I have both and also GFT Limes and coconut soap and I prefer Dr Harris over GFT.

IMO, they are both excellent soaps based solely on performance/efficiency. They both have great scents too, it's just a matter of finding which one(s) you like.

I have used/had D.R. Harris ARlington and GFT Lime soaps and consider the non-tallow GFT Limes to be the better of the two. As a matter of fact my GFT Lime and Institute Karate are the only non tallow soaps that I own now and consider them both to be equal to or better than my tallow soaps.
