Dovo Shavette Stainless 201 006 help needed

Hello all,

I would like to discuss with the fine members of this board an issue that I came upon recently and have no experience in sorting it out.
I recently purchased a Dovo Shavette with stainless "scales" and started shaving with it. First three shaves were cheeks only and managed to get closer into the chin area without incidents.
I am very thrilled with this razor and wanted to make it my travel razor since it is light and easily stored in a toothbrush holder.

However, I found a major design flaw that at least one other member stumbled upon as well. Inside the "scales" there is a stop tab that suppose to prevent the razor to close onto the blade and hit the bottom of the "scales".

Here is a picture of the tab:

And another picture showing the blade holder and the exposed edge:

The problem I discovered during my last shave is that the little tab will hit the blade when using the longer blades with the black insert. When I closed the razor the blade rests on the tab and, needless to say, it damages the edge.

In this thread trewornan post#8 describes the very same issue. The post is dated 2008 so I suppose many Stainless Shavette users came across this problem.

Now this would not be an issue for me if... the manufacturer would have real Customer Service and... the vendor could understand the issue I raised.
So, the vendor tells me to contact the manufacturer and Dovo tells me to go back to the vendor. I explained this issue to both and also attached same pictures but got nowhere.

Can any of the more experienced users help me describe this problem to the vendor?
I will get back to DOVO in a more detailed email but would like to sort it out with the vendor first, that by the way, believes it is me that is using the razor inappropriately.

Thank you.

I think you described the problem well. Iv'e not heard of this issue before, so I can't say what others are doing.

One possible workaround...
In a traditional straight razor, the scales are close enough together that the blade will stop when the thickness of the blade matches the gap in the scales. If the wedge is too big, then the blade may protrude past the botton because of the open design (obviously, in the shavette, it would hit the scale bottom). Can the top of the scales be bent "in" so that the blade holder will rest on the scales and prevent the blade from touching the bottom?

Thank you Mike for your solution. I prefer not to alter this razor so will wait for Dovo or vendor to respond satisfactory. Not to forget that scales are made of stainless steel so if modified to stop the blade holder they would most likely scratch it.

Just wondering how is the stopper on other models (plastic scales, or faux tortoise). Would someone be so kind and post some pics?

I use a Dovo shavette, but only with the red half-DE blade holder, so can't help here. I get great shaves with it, so am very happy with it. Hope you are able to work this issue out.

What DE blades are you using? are you 'corking' them as well to take the edge off?

I think you posted in the wrong thread.
Do you use a Stainless Shavette? If so, what do you think is the purpose of the little tab?
If you have a Shavette with a plastic handle, can you check if it has any kind of stop for the blade holder so when you close the razor the blade does not hit the bottom of the handle/scales?

Thank you.
