Dollar Tree shaving gel

Has anyone ever tried the shaving gel from Dollar Tree? What are your thoughts? I bought a tube (it was only a dollar! -) and it smells pretty good, but I'm not sure how it will lather, etc. I plan on using it with a brush and lathering in my hand. Thanks!

Is this the one called "On the Go", or something like that?

I've seen it, but haven't tried it. Looks like you'd just apply by hand and shave away.

The one I bought is just called "Shave Gel"...

I use this as pre shave sometimes when i have a pimple I Want to shave over Without nicking it.
Use Sparingly, then Shave with your regular Shaving Soap/Cream. (Careful that you don't get the Gel in the brush too much, or your lather may be affected.)
you could also apply it, and then wash it off.

This has been my go to travel shaving solution. It does not want a brush, using your fingertips results in a very slick coating that will start to froth but does not lather.

No, but I came real close to buying it, twice. I'll be driving buy a Dollar Tree every evening this week, so I might break down and splurge for a buck on it based on your review. I did find myself in a bit of weakness and buy the ten pack of the grey Personna disposables and I have no idea why I did it. I never shaved with a disposable in my life. I'm going to try one tomorrow and we can swap reviews.

I've tried those. They gave me a mediocre shave on my face, but I keep a couple with my travel bag/carry on. I have used elsewhere with fine results. They're cheap, and sanitary, so you can just throw them out after each time you use one.

I used the shave gel this morning, applying it as timsclips suggested. It is indeed very slick and the razor pretty much glid right over my face. The "lather" is pretty thin, but this stuff is almost slimy it is so slick. It has a pleasant smell and rinses clean. Afterward I followed up with some Aqua Velva and feel pretty good about myself today! :biggrin1: I doubt this will ever be my go-to product, but I will definately use it and will buy more when this tube runs out. I may try applying it with a brush next time, just for kicks...

This is a latherless shave gel. It is very slick. I have been using it as a pre shave as mentioned. I use an amount about the size of a pea on the left, right cheek and the neck on wet skin and hand and rub it in sufficiently until it turns from clear to white. Then I apply my lather from soap or cream. I used it this morning with Proraso Red . Glide was really good and resulted in an irritation free shave. I have been using it for about a month now every morning and plan to keep it in my daily rotation. I liked it enough to buy a case. At $1 a tube it is a bargain and works as well as any pre shave product I have used. Proraso pre shave is 20 times more expensive per ounce.

I used it again this morning, applying it with a brush. That built a little more "lather" which quickly faded away, but the slick coating remained. I used a 1966 Gillette Slim adjustable (set on #3) that just arrived in the mail yesterday :biggrin1: with a Shark Super Stainless that also arrrived in the mail yesterday! :biggrin1::biggrin1:

I don't use it by itself. Try using it as a pre shave and lather your cream or soap over it. I used it with Provence Sante this morning. I like Provence Sante but always though that it was not as slick as some other soaps. This added slick to the fragrance and protection of the soap.

I haven't use a gel since I gave up multiblade razor shaving, but what it did was gunk up between the blades and make me press the razor harder against my face. This resulted in irritation.

This is a "whatever works for you" community forum. I don't like it personally, but it doesn't mean it isn't the right product for somebody else.

This stuff is nothing like Gillette canned gel. I tried it once and did not like it either. It doesn't gunk and washes easily from the razor. I don't find that I press any harder to shave. Maybe the contrary as the razor glides more freely over the skin. I find that I get irritation free shaves from any razor and blade combination using it as a pre shave. YMMV. It may not work for you.

Since we are in the dollar store/cream subject. Today I went to me local Dollar Tree store and they have a clearance in all "upper end" product for men. I picked up a couple Nivea post shaving balm for $3 each. Stuff from Gillette and Neutrogena was also on sale half off. Just giving the heads-up.

Bought this a few others from the Dollar Tree and they all dry fast. So instead of using them on my face, I started using them to shave other places.
