Dollar General Trac II/Atra Blades

Hi everyone. I tried one of the Dollar General Trac II/Atra combo blades this morning in my newly acquired heavy Trac II handle, and got a very close, and comfortable shave.

These are made in Korea, and I understand made by dorco.

I got very satisfactory results from them, and at $1.25 for a 6 pack, they are a really good deal.

Anyone else have any experience with them?

I bought a pack and have used most all of them. I think they work very well and I've gotten at least three shaves from one cart. I used mine entirely in a Trac II.

Why don't we have a Dollar General? Our HEMA (which is something like it) does carry Trac2 blades, but they are not that good...

My buddy Gijys is from your neck of the woods and after returning to Amsterdam after a year as a student in Alabama he said the two things he missed most were Dollar General and Huddle House

Never been to the States, but I am missing it...

One trip to Huddle House for country ham, scrambled eggs and grits and a look at all the bargains in Dollar General and you would have to be forcefully deported! lol :wink2: My daughter and I managed a trip to Tacobet flea mkt AND Dollar General before church today!

I just picked up some Dollar General DE blades to try, they're not distributed by ASR as I expected. They said "comparable to Schick blades."

Should I be scared? :001_tongu

5 for $1.00, thought it was worth the experiment...hopefully...

They are made in Korea, and thus likely some variation on Dorco's.

I have a package awaiting testing as well.

Believe it or not, I have never been to a Huddle House.

Sounds like you found a deal, John. But of course, when do you not find a deal at DG?

boy, I just did not like those as much as the Wal Mart Personna clones. I can get a GOOD 7 or 8 shaves out of the Personnas. The DG blades were very "skippy" for some reason. I just didn't care for 'em enough to buy them again.

Wow...about those DG blades I picked up yesterday...I tried one this morning and..can I give 3 thumbs down? These things make the Wally World Personnas look like Feathers.

I got 2 nicks...something that I have eliminated through technique. I never get nicks on any blades any more...except for these. Also, 2 hours later, I feel like sandpaper. These blades are barely better than a cartridge. HORRIBLE. At least I only threw away a dollar for them. Maybe I'll try them in different razors. I put one in my Tech to play it safe. I'll throw one in my adjustable and crank it up to 9. If I don't post again, I've severed a major artery in my neck.

Just to be clear, we are talking about the Dollar General DE blades, and not the Trac II blades.

As I indicated before, these are some variation on Dorco blades, which are made in Korea. Dorco makes two blade types: the ST300, and the ST301.

Reaction to both of these are mixed, but in general the ST300 blade is generally regarded as being pretty horrific.

If these are the ST300 blades, then your findings would likely jive with the reports of others:

Here is the review of the ST301 blades for comparisson:

So am I. DE blades.

The blades were not shaped like that actually.

What do you mean? The DE blades you bought from Dollar General were not of the standard shape, and size? The packaging would be a little different, as mine came in a plastic blade dispenser, instead of being individually wrapped.

I too have a 5 pack of the DE blades from DG, but I am in no hurry to try them given the less than stellar reputation of Dorco blades.

My DG de blades clearly say made in Korea. I know of no other blade plant in Korea besides the Dorco plant, I guess there could be others in theory.

They were not shaped like those Dorco blades, specifically the center section's "hole" for lack of a better description. It was actually shaped more like a Personna blade, but did not list ASR on the back, I believe it was a distributor in Georgia (USA). I threw the package out.

OK, package was still in the top of the trash and I read it...

Distributed by: DOLGEN CORP in Georgia (knew it was southern state)

Obviously it is short for Dollar General Corporation, but that doesn't really state the manufacturer. Does not say ASR or reference Dorco. The case works like the Wally Personna case, but looks slightly different.

I don't know what they are, but they're crap.

If you look closer at the package, I am fairly certain, it says "Made In Korea", mine does. Since Dorco is the only Korean manufacturer of blades we know about, we assume they are Dorcos.
