Inspired by some recent threads, I'm curious to know how many members here get support from their spouse / partner for their shaving mania. My wife thinks that I have lost my marbles (actually, I traded them for some Proraso). She shows less interest in a new razor or soap than she would if I unwrapped a set of washers for the garden tap. Explaining to her the subtle differences between DR Harris and T&H soaps is like explaining that I have found a new knot for my shoelaces. A blank, vaguely sympathetic stare at best. And the sympathetic component is somewhat short lived.

Meanwhile, more fortunate members seem to have spouses and partners who share the passion and participate in the various ADs.

Am I in the minority or majority?

Cheers

"Got Shoes?"
I have been married for 14 years. My wife has not participated in anything that I have showed an interest in for about 15 years.

I'm kidding. The missus, although she does not show an interest in my hobby, she does not abhor it as she has lived through the various stages of the other OCD phases that I have gone through, the least costly of which is wet-shaving. In other words, she loves me.

I just got started DE shaving and my wife actually went with me to the Art of Shaving, Saks 5th Ave., and various other stores when I wanted to buy a brush. She was actually thrilled that I found it online at a better price and quality than anywhere else. She thought the wire hanger shaving stand I made, because I couldn't find anything to hold my Merkur 38C and Savile Row 3226, was awesome. After 15 years, she knows I get obsessive over things. She usually points it out but winds up being an enabler.

My wife is kind of like Johnniegold describes: she shows little interest other than the occasional, quite veiled, eye roll, but compared to other things I tinker with, this is fine.

Hey, I'm spending a few bucks here and there on GROOMING, man! Much easier to deal with and (still much cheaper) than tube amps, guitars, fly fishing gear, guns, cameras...

Amusingly, I did spend a week telling my wife about the new knot I discovered for my shoelaces. The woman was even able to smile about that.

Needless to say, she accepts hearing about DE wet-shaving every single day of the week with nothing short of grace and poise.

Wife stills comments to me on occasion about the small tub of Nancy Boy I won in a contest. But she does like the way I smell now. She is even starting to wear her Chanel No. 5 regularly. It really is a nice fragrance on her.

Being on a somewhat limited budget, we really try and support each other in our collections. One month she will get the money for her stuff and the other it goes to me. It always has worked out great for us.

Clean up that room young man!:001_rolle

My wife was quietly supportive and even curious. At one point after noticing an improvement in the look and feel of my face she wondered if it might work for here. a short time later I put a nice Blue Star in her possession and she has been amazed ever since. She still does not seem to have any shaving related AD's but is a few degrees more supportive.

As others have noted, my previous diversions (Ham Radio, fishing, knives, guns, motorcycles, Clocks, watches, Cameras, Surfing, Scuba, and perhaps a few more) have been more costly and less productive from her point of view. So she really doesn't mind the depth of my shaving sickness.

The girlfriend views this wet shaving thing like she views my other hobbies; with benign indifference.

She does like the results of this more than tying a perfect dry fly, however.

My wife of 18 years thinks my wet shaving obsession is marvelous. She even checks out antique stores for me. My last flea bay haul includes a Gillette pastel blue handled ladies TTO and she can't wait to try it.This will mean I will have to purchase some new blades and a nice cream or two.:wink:

I've been a member of B&B for about two months. Last night my wife asked, "Are you surfing porn? You're on that computer all night typing."

"Yeah." I said. "Shave Porn."

I wish you could have seen the look. She thought I said, "Shaved Porn".

Anyhoo, I let her bump around B&B today and read my posts. Now she gets it. Other than that, she's been pretty cool with my "new" obsession.

My wife is supportive of shaving as somthing I enjoy. It's less expense and /or damaging than other potential obsessions. But she really likes the smooth face and the nice smells.:ladysman:

my great wife is neutral at the moment.when she finds out how much ive spent i think she will become very negative :c3: ive got stashes all over the house:biggrin:
