Does Proraso pre/post sensitive have menthol in it?

Hi,

I like the effect the regular proraso pre/post has on my beard, but I hate the menthol. For me, a perfect shave must start hot and end cold. I love menthol on an aftershave, but as I like shaving with hot water and use a scuttle to keep my brush warm, I don't see the use of having a refreshing sensation on a preshave product, it should only be present on the "post" products. Feeling hot and cold at the same time is just weird. Does anyone know if the sensitive Green tea/Aloe vera version of Proraso pre/post gives any menthol kick? Thanks.

There is no menthol in it. It has more of a fresh soapy scent. It is slightly different in that it only suggests using it as a pre shave rather than a pre/post cream.

How does it perform in your opinion? Even though it has no menthol, does it also have a cooling effect? (I don't like that)

I think the Green Tea gives it a cooling effect but it is more noticable in the scent than on the skin. I think it does give a very slight cooling sensation on the skin but nothing like the effect of the classic pre/post cream.

I'm sorry, but the white proraso pre/post does contain menthol.

The list of ingredients can be found here, it's taken directly from the product.

They must have. The ingredient list follows almost exactly what you have listed there but with slight differences. The one big difference is there is no menthol listed. Menthol is listed in the shaving soap though..

I got both variants, but I was surprised to see that the one for sensitive skin contained menthol, although it only is a small amount.
Maybe Proraso came to the conclusion it wasn't suitable or had complaints about irritation and removed it.
The green tea I've got, is about a year old and a lot can happen during a year.

Well, I'll could be curious enough to check my local Proraso pusher and hear if they have the menthol-free version and then give it a try, just to see the difference :001_smile

I imagine the difference between the two must be very noticeable. I would like to know if it's true they've taken out the menthol.

It doesn't smell of menthol at all, so there is a chance that it has been an error on the box - I'm getting more curious to know now :001_rolle

I have the sensitive version w/green tea & aloe and boy let me tell you this stuff is STRONG! When applied to my checks it almost brings tears to my eyes (and has!) that's how strong this stuff is.

Not sure which ingredient is responsible for this but it makes my proraso cream feel non-mentholated, if that makes sense.

What do you mean by "strong"? Does it sting? Or is it more like a freezing sensation?

It's hard to describe but it really makes my eyes start to water up. I would probably describe it as intense freezing sensation, although it doesn't make the face cold until water is applied later on. I leave a bit on and then apply some proraso cream on top and its a very pleasant sensation. It's my first time buying it and it's been lasting quite a long time, already a couple months and it's barely half used. A little goes a long way with this stuff.

Just to make sure, I used the pre-shave cream today, and it definitely got menthol in it.
I applied it and then went on to make the lather, and the cooling sensation was very clear.

So it seems they have changed the formula, and I can understand that, because if you have sensitive skin, I don't think you would agree well with the cream.

With the menthol out, I'm sure it will be suited for sensitive skin.
If my local Proraso pusher doesn't have the menthol-free version, I'll visit Shaving.ie for sure, I have to try it now :001_rolle

In your opinion, does it improve your shave?

YMMV, but it some cases I think it does, and in other it makes no difference.
I've got a Fitjar soap which I am very fond of, I love the smell, but something in it irritates my skin if I use it directly. If I use pre-shave cream I have no irritation from the soap, so it is quite clear that the cream is acting like a protective layer in this case.

I tried it, and the proraso I have most definitely, and strogly has menthol in it!

I'm not a menthol fan, but I had an excellent shave with the stuff one morning when I was extremely hung over! Perhaps it helps to tighten up the skin prior to shaving?
