Does anyone produce thick DE blades? Why did they become thin?

In past decades DE blades were thicker than currently.

I wonder why DE blades became thinner?

Do any companies still produce thicker DE blades?

Just spitballing here; but I would guess that advances in metal compounds (increased ability to hold an edge with less material), coupled with cost savings would be contributing factors.
