Does anyone know the history of Pinaud Clubman?

Hi,
I'm looking for the Pinaud Clubman shave talc. Strangely I haven't found it on any online European vendors, which seems strange, because as I've read somewhere, Pinaud Clubman is a French brand. I always find it listed on American vendors. Was the brand bought at some time by an American company? Does any one know the history of the brand? I've heard it's quite old. Thanks.

Here's information from the company's own website:

"Welcome to the Club: Clubman has been synonymous with good grooming since 1810.
To say that the Pinaud brand and its Clubman line of fine men’s toiletries have staying power is an understatement. After all, men have been using the products since 1810 when Edouard Pinaud, a perfumer, opened a shop in Paris. The house of Ed Pinaud, as it was called, sold perfumes, shaving soaps, creams, face and complexion powders and dozens of other beauty and grooming products. Pinaud’s specialties included the Eau de Quinine, a fragrance for hair, as well as perfumes by the name of Violette Reine, Brise embaumee Violette, Boquet de Foscarina, Genet d’Or and Marie Louise. Pinaud also served as the perfumer for the court of Napoleon III and created his first aftershave, Lilac Vegetal for the Hungarian calvalry. He later launched his Clubman line of products, commissioning an artist to create the trademark dapper Frenchman for the labels.

During the pharmaceutical era of the early 1900’s, Pinaud’s products gained popularity around the world. Under the direction of the company’s new owner Victor Klotz, more that 150,000 bottles of Eau de Quinine were sold monthly. The United States, Canada, Mexico and Cuba all proved to be successful markets for the products. American International Industries, Los Angeles, California, acquired the brand and its Clubman line almost 30 years ago."

Edouard Pinaud was born 200 years ago, about 200 km north of Paris where he moved to at the age of 15.

In 1830, as a young perfumer, he opened his first shop in the heart of the aristocratic district of Paris.

Prominent achievements:

* In 1841, ED. PINAUD is acknowledged as a "producer of top- quality perfumeries" by the National Court of Commerce.

* In 1845, ED. PINAUD was granted its first royal patent by being appointed "sole official supplier" of the Queen Victoria of England, thereafter followed by dozens of privileges of the like.

* Lilac Vegetal-After-shave made for the Hungarian cavalry attached to the court of Napoleon III by Edouard Pinaud, the court perfumer.

* In 1855, the first awarded medal at the Paris World Fair; ED. PINAUD would receive more than 10 prizes until 1988 including Gold, Silver Medals and Grand Prizes in London, Quito or Vienna.

* In 1897, the opening of the Place Vendme showroom and in 1920, the launching of the 5th Avenue ED. PINAUD building in New York.

In 2007, ED. PINAUD became one of the brands and properties under DCHL Group.

Founded in 2000, DCHL has 28 offices in 11 countries, which include Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, China, and Thailand.

Thanks for the reply! As a follow up question. Does anyone know where I can find online Clubman Shave Talc in Europe?

Atlanta Barber and Beauty Supply has Clubman talc for $3.50. They also carry many other Pinaud aftershaves at reasonable prices. I do not know if they ship to Spain.

But when was aftershave first marketed? Old Spice in the late 1930s?

Dr. Johnson failed to mention aftershave in his dictionary. However bay rum "after shave" recipes appeared as early as 1887. By 1897 it was hyphenated as "after-shave". That looks like the earliest ad, for Seely After-Shave. In the same year menthol began to rival bay rum. By 1907 the hypen had begun to wither away, for the modern "aftershave".
