Wet shaving and playing a musical instrument have a lot in common. Specialized equipment, practicing, muscle memory... What I'm interested in, is whether the motivation to practice and learn an instrument translates to the shaving world. The most interesting difference between the two, imho, is the solitary nature of shaving as opposed to the inclusive nature of music. When you shave, you don't form "shaving groups" and all get together once a week to shave together, but with an instrument it's almost a requisite.

I teach and perform guitar and bass for a living. I am playing bass in a pit orchestra for a show tonight and tomorrow afternoon called "Sugar" , based on the movie Some Like it Hot with Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. Last night I played guitar in a jazz quartet that I have been playing in for some time. I also play in a 19 piece big band and perform solo jazz and classical guitar..I teach in a music studio afternoons and evenings 6 days a week.

I answered yes. I play (not very well) the uklulele and am learning to play the bagpipes much to SWMBO's chagrin even though she bought them for me. I can't understand it. Every time I start practicing the bagpipes SWMBO finds somewhere to go. :001_tongu

If there is ever an opening in a California-based Hawaiian/Scottish Marching Band I should be a shoe-in!

Enjoy your instruments AND your shaves.

My neighbours knocked on my door the other night at 2am. Luckily I was still up practising the bagpipes...

Actually did try the Highland pipes once at a friend's near Stirling. Couldn't get the hang on relaxing the pressure on the bag while blowing air in and turned purple!

My main instrument is the melodeon, called the button box in Ireland (see avatar). I have four so far and that's a far more expensive AD than any of the shaving ones!

Also play mandolin, guitar, uke and I'm learning the fiddle. Have a clarsach in the corner but have never got the hang of it as I can't focus on all the strings at once! Old age setting in with the eyesight...

I play for a couple of morris teams and also run an English Ceilidh band for dances. Pub sessions once or twice a week as well.

Gareth

Forgot to mention the short scale Irish tenor banjo. Tuned the same as a mandolin and fiddle so simple enough to switch between them

I play guitar as well. My wife had a custom fingerstyle guitar built for me a few years ago. She's a keeper. As to the original post this does seem to be an interesting theory.

I play the violin. I started taking lessons when I was 8 years old. I played in the college orchestra. I now play in two community orchestras in the Tampa Bay area. I have been playing for over 50 years.
