Do Merkur razors have their name on them?

I purchased a $30 razor on ebay a couple years back, and it was listed as a Merkur, butterfly type with rough surface on handle. When I got it there was no name on the razor and no paperwork saying anything. I did ok with it, kinda spotty shaves really, but got some close passes out of it. Tired of messing with brush, slower shave and not much better shave. In some cases worse.:blushing:

Went back to cartridge and was on AR15.com and they had another de razor thread and mentioned this site and the EJ89L which I went and bought. Had just tried the old de with a Feather blade and Proraso green and got 2 crappy shaves. This was after a year or more of just cartridge.

Got the 89 and put the Derby blade it comes with in it. Gave my brother the green Proraso as I think I am allergic to it and broke out the red Proraso and TOBS Mr. Taylor cream. Got 2 BSS shaves out of it and am thinking the razor I had was junk.

I shave ATG and after the lather is rinsed off but skin is still a bit slick from it. Use pressure as well but try to be careful. Only way I can get the kind of shave I want. In the shower too with no mirror.:001_huh: Will add a shaving mirror here quick, but really am used to doing it by feel.

Will be receiving a TOBS cream sampler from Garry Johnson soon. Learned about him on here. Forgot to get a sample of Castle Forbes Lime. Should I just get a tub if I like a lime scent?

hi dacat - welcome to B&B! head over to the Hall Of Fame and tell us a bit about your shaving gear etc.

try posting a pic of your razor, that will help us identify it. regards the lime shave cream - just buy it, you know you want to!

I have a Merkur 34C and a 15C, doesn't say Merkur anywhere on them. Please post a picture, both open and closed (by your description I assume this is a twist-to-open razor). The only TTO razor Merkur makes is the Vision, as far as I know.

I have both the 23C & 38C and they both have 'MERKUR' printed almost at the end of the razor. I'll see if I can get a closer shot.

Like the photo above, I have the 39c and 37c slants, as well as the 34HD. All of which have "Merkur" written around the bottom portion of the razor.

Thanks guys. I am going with the pics you posted and my razor does not look remotely like any of them. Looked for wording down on handle and there is none, head either.

In any case, I guess a quality razor does make all the difference, at least for me it does. The 89 is quite forgiving compared to the old one as well as giving a better shave. No nicks or irritation and going ATG with no lather and using pressure...

Probably just go ahead and get the CF Lime cream. I need it, hehe.

If your butterfly doesn't look like the Vision in post #4 by mblakele it isn't a Merkur no matter what; it is the only butterfly-like razor made by that company. And all my Merkurs have both the logo and the name on them.
