DIY Preshave Oil Recipes

I know, I know, preshave oils are unecessary, counterproductive, a pox on the human race and a government plot to clog our razors and ruin our lathers. Nevertheless, I've drunk the KoolAid and I'm convinced that they make my shaves better and my skin feels better when I use one.

One thing I can't do anymore is pay $10+ for a small bottle of what seems to be nothing more than everyday kitchen oils. It's time to take matters into my own hands and make a custom-blend preshave oil, handcrafted to my precise specifications!

I know there are a bunch of home chemists hard at work out there, making their own oil mixes. I'd be appreciative if you could share your recipes, thanks.:thumbup1:

Something as simple as grapeseed oil (thinner than olive oil) will do fine. Add your own EOs if you feel like it and call it a day. There is also a shave oil sold at Rite Aid... think it is called "One Planet" or something. It's all natural, the ingredients are.. ah here it is:
Sunflower Seed Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Castor Seed Oil, Aloe leaf Juice, Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint & Spearmint Oil, Thyme & Lavender Oil, Grapefruit & Olive Oil

I think it was $5 for an ounce, which is pretty reasonable compared to most shave oils.

per the original question, you can pick any number of different oils (olive, almond, grapeseed) as the base and then buy your essential oil of choice for the scent. same plan can be used for A/S balm using neutrogena or "razor defense" (i forgot the manufacturer) as a base and adding EO. performs just as well as the "boutique" stuff and a lot cheaper plus no shipping and "handling" charges.

i found massage oil pretty good and pretty cheap. might try some almond or grapeseed also.

however, the massage oil and the cheap premade stuff from walmart comes nowhere close in performance to musgo real oil. that stuff has a secret ingredient of some kind that is awesome.
