Yesterday i was at the goodwill and saw some pickel-ball paddles for $.99 each. A light bulb went off in my brain . This would make the perfect paddle strop. It already has a handle and i counted 7 layers of pressed wood. It's nice & sturdy. I snatched up 3 of like the dozen they had laying around. Got home and made 3 cuts for a width of 3" wide. Handed sanded the edges and paint off, drilled a leather hole, and gave it a 2 coats of "Golden Oak" finish (had this from a past project). I'm gonna give it 1 more coat tonight when it dries to make it 3 coats. But so far, so good. Tomorrow i'm heading to McLendons to buy some Balsa wood for one chrome-oxide paddle. Gonna paint the handle dark brown to off-set the golden oak finish. Dunno what i'll put on the other 2 paddles, leather strop or different pasted??? I'll post a finished pic hopefully tomorrow if i have time.
Today i had also finished my diy travel / seatbelt strop. Junkyard seatbelt $1. Used the middle backseat one cause the ends are already sewn. Was looking for 2.5 or 3 but 2in was standard in ALL vehicles. I had a spare strop handle so i painfully hand sewn the leather & fabric. Btw sewing hard leather with a tiny needle is a pita. But i got it done nevertheless. Took a pic of the weave. By no means will it replace the leather, but it works fine. Total Price for 3 Paddles & Travel Strop = $4!!!!!
Your input would be appreciated. Thanks
