Discussion Thread for 5/8 Dovo "Special" Tortoise Review....

I have the 6/8. It was my 1st regular str8 and it has been a great shaver. It is easy to sharpen and shaves very smoothly.

The next str8 I bought was a Bismarck and it just doesn't seem to compare with the "Special." I find it harder to keep sharp and it doesn't shave as smoothly.

I found the same my special after i honed on the bbw and coti was super smooth and my bismark was so hard to get as smooth and still is'nt.

"for not too much coin, with about a 1/4 hollow blade, this is just a really sweet deal"
-Isn't this a full hollow blade?

very nice. Thank you for the review and such wonderful photo's

I love razor porn. I think i am razor porn adicted

The label on the box of the one I checked out read "W. Germany". Does this mean that this particular razor is "NOS-New Old Stock" or do even the newer Dovo's continue to use these older labels?

Recently I purchased DOVO special. I based my decision also after reading this review among others opinions on DOVO razors.

The razor I got had a slightly "frowned" edge. you can photos here:

I asked other experienced forumites here in another thread about this matter and they said it's unacceptable for a new razor to have any frown so I returned the razor back to the seller and asked either for a flawless replacemnet of the same model (which apparently they don't have) or a refund. It seems that german quality is not as high as it used to be so don't take it for granted.

My Dovo is not frowned at all. If anything it's the opposite of yours. I might question the vendor as well as DOVO. I bought mine from SRD. Vintage Blades or Classic Shaving as well would have most likely not let this pass through them to the customer.
