disappointed by Feathers

After working through 100 Red Pack Israelis, I decided to give Feathers a try.

Well, they just didn't do it for me. I found them rougher than the Red Packs and got a bunch of weepers on my neck, without a corresponding increase in the closeness of the shave. Fortunately, I only bought one pack, and now I've ordered another 100 Red Packs. ($10 at West Coast Shaving -- the best deal in wetshaving.)

Feathers seem to have a real hit and miss with its users. I'm personally holding off on them till I master my shave. Thanks for the review. How long have you been using the Israelies if you don't mind my asking?

I've found that for me it depends on the shaver.

In my HD, the Red Packs work great (this is my typical shaving combination). In my slim adjustable or 60s SS, the feathers are superb.

But switching the blade/shaver combinations around, I can't get nearly as nice of a shave.

So, naturally, I've been hording 100-packs of both brands of blades

Funnily enough, with respect to blades for specific razors, I'm bordering on falling in love with my '59 flairtip since loading it with Yellow 7s. The smoothest smoothness in all smoothdom!

I've been using the Red Packs for about the past year. Oddly enough, I use them in a Feather DE razor, which you'd think would be ideal for the Feather blades.

oh well, blades are a very personal thing.
Feathes are the only DE blade that would get close too BBS for me.
The red personnas were OK as long as I didn't use a too aggressive razor/setting
The yellow 7's were somewhere in between, but more expensive than the red P's and harder to buy than the feathers, so I didn't use yellow 7s too much but lived fine without them as they weren't that great for me.

The Feathers work for me but you have to be careful with them. They are sharp and can pull a little. Red Packs are very smooth but not sharp enough for me. A good compromise on my beard is the Gillette 7 O'clock. They are a lot sharper than the Red Pack but they are still very smooth and comfortable.

This doesn't happen very often... If feather doesn't do it for you, I would recommend KAI

i tried a feather for the first time today..
needless to say, i was not chin droppingly impressed,

i was like, i dunno,
i think my lather i make has more to do with anythign than the blade does,

that being said, i find gem se blades a more comfortable sharp shave than any de makes me want those spineless feathers for my valet :)

i guess it really is YMMV:thumbup:

Every once in a while I get a bad blade. Set them aside and try another one in a few weeks. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I'm with you. I cannot see how people can use these.

If you're anything like me, you'll find that nothing beats IPs.

I've been experimenting with them for the last couple of weeks and the jury is still out as far as I'm concerned. Feathers are certainly sharp but so far I don't find them particularly smooth.

Just of curiosity, I will try my first Feather today. Have had Derbys for a few shaves now. I've only heard about Feather that they're supposed to be the sharpest blades ever, but that doesn't necessarily mean a quality shave, I can imagine.

For me, they give an absolutely amazing shave the first 2-3 shaves, but then the shave quality noticeably goes down. I also have to be mega careful.

The Feather blade was definitely better and sharper than the Derby blade I used for my first two shaves. I guess I half expected it to eat away my face, which it didn't. I got the best shave I've had so far, with a few tiny nicks, no rash and very slight irritation in the neck area. Think I'll stick with Feather when improving my technique during the shaves to come.

I find the first shave with a Feather rough so I habd stoo them and get four to five good smooth shaves with them. They work well for me in a NEW open comb and a Tech. Aggressive blade in mild razor seems to balance out well.

Your milage will definately vary, they are good but they also are more expensive.

Cheaper alternative might be Kai!
