Difference (?) in two store's Personnas (?)

Found an old Gillette today so went to Walmart and bought their double edge Personnas. A little over a buck for 10, so I thought yay, fine.

Then I stopped by Meijer (semi-local chain) and found essentially the same blades but for over $3 because - I guess - it says it has "Comfort Coating" or something like that.

I know the same company made both because the descriptive text was almost identical, as is the pkg. But only the Meijer blades said anything about being coated...with what I do not know, it does not say.

Is there a real difference between these two, or should I keep one and take the other back? thanks,

(if this is addressed elsewhere, apologies, please steer me)

The difference lies only in their blade coatings. They probably will shave a little differently. I think you should keep both, and experiment with both types of blades.

It's always helpful to know what blades are available locally, to know if they can get you by in a pinch while your newest bulk shipment of your favorite blades waits to arrive from your favorite online supplier.

Who knows you might find one of these blades is perfectly acceptable, and not need to order blades online.

By the way, "Family Dollar" also sells their own branded blades, which are believed to be Dorcos, and they might be worth trying out as well. At one point the FD blades were Personna's as well (just re-branded) but it seems this is no longer the case. If they say made in Korea on them, they are going to be Dorcos.

Your Walmarts were these, right?:

Platinum Chromes are upscale from most of the store brands.

For the record, I'm using these and am very happy with them.

Yep, that's them. Okay, I'll need new blades eventually anyway, so will give 'em a try along with the Meijer ones.

Picked these up myself for my starter blades and so far I am more then satisfied. Especially at a $1.76 for a 10 pack locally.

+2 This is a very good and serviceable blade and can't be beat for price and availability. (unless your buying blades in huge lots and getting the group discount)

Same price here. Glad to know they're decent enough to keep...my beard isn't exactly a thicket so hopefully they'll be enough for me.

I found those, except mine were a 5pack and on the back said made in israel. the package looked the same except the blade holder

I have been testing WAL*MART vs. Grocery store Personnas here:

Do your Meijer blades say "Stainless Steel" on the blades instead of "Platinum Chrome" with the coating? Produced by ASR?

I've already pitched the package, but the Meijer blade box does say platinum chrome. I *believe* they said they were ASR.

Stubble forming, but skin not yet ready to try them out for the 1st time.

I was at Meijer tonight, and double checked the package. They do say "platinum chrome", but also say "Comfort Coated". They are clearly made by ASR/ Personna, as "Comfort Coated" is one of their trademarks.

The Wal-Mart Personnas don't say anything about being Comfort Coated. I am curious to know how much the extra coating affects the quality of the shave. :tongue_sm

Keep us updated. :thumbup1:

I would compare the blades themselves, not necessarily the packages.

The personna blades have a code printed on them. I am planning a personna blade "study" to categorize the codes with blade description store/brand. Anyone want to contribute let me know.

I expect if the codes are the same, the blades are part of the same line with the same coating treatment, just packaged for different stores.
