Difference in shaves between injectors?

Had a Schick E2 loaned to me to try out. It did great; only used one blade for a week.

Bought a Schick G1 and ordered some blades from Hocks.com. First couple of shaves seemed good, but then it didn't seem to shave as close after that. The G1 seems to hold the blade good and tight.

Just wondering if anyone thought that the E2 may be a bit more aggressive than the G1. Of course, it may be the blades as HoosierTrooper sent some coated blades from EMS with the E2 and the ones I have now are the Schick brand.

I wonder how outrageous the shipping would be from EMS for just one pack of 20 blades? I'm scared to look.

I've only used the F and G Schick injectors (from that period), but I've heard that the E and G type Schicks only really differ in the material used in their handles, so I doubt it's the razor itself.

The Chinese Schick blades (the ones you got from Hocks) are very smooth, but I also did not find that they were as long-lasting as the Ted Pella blades. However, they do start out smoother than the Pellas.

Still, I got more than two shaves out of each Chinese Schick.

There are vendors who sell the EMS blades in small amounts, I believe.

It seems to me that there are differences even between the three G1 injectors I've got. Comments made by others make me think it's not just me. My type Es are very similar in a general sort of way, but there's enough variation that I wouldn't claim that one is definitely more aggressive than the other. Also, consider that while these are very durable, they have been around a long time, and not all of them have aged equally well.

For me, the modern Schick brand of blades lasts longer (8-10 shaves) than the Pellas or other Personna re-brands (6-7). Nowhere on the Schick packaging can I find a country of origin, so I don't know if these are the Chinese Schicks or not. I've bought some from Hocks, some from Amazon.

I ordered 200 EMS blades a while back, and paid 49 dollars and change shipped, although there was a long delay before they shipped. I believe they only ship UPS, so the shipping on one pack of blades might not be worth it.

I can't tell much difference between the G and E types as a group, but I can tell some differences between particular razors. It could be due to age and wear and tear or differences in manufacturing. Here's a couple pictures to demonstrate what I mean about differences in manufacturing.

The J type is generally regarded as being a mild razor. On the left is a J1 and on the right is a J2. The difference in the opening is obvious and there is a big difference in how they shave. The J2 is a very mild shaver while the J1 is quite a bit more aggressive, much more like an E or G.

I love the Micromatic Clog Pruf and have always preferred the silver one over the gold one I have. I was looking at them one day and noticed the safety bars are quite different. The gold one has 17 "teeth" while the silver one has 12, resulting in more open space for the blade edge to be exposed on the silver one, and the teeth are shorter. I believe explains why I like the it better.

I wonder how many other lines of razors have differences in how they were made over the years, and how much those differences affect how they perform.

Thanks guys, didn't know if there was any difference between the models or not.

Tom, your powers of observation and attention to detail are extaordinary.

I wonder where that comes from?:lol::lol:

The G1 razor itself looks to be in great shape; blade stops are good and nothing is bent/broken. It appears to have plenty of blade exposure...the pic. of it below looks more like the J1 in the photo than the J2.

May have gotten an off blade or something...will try a new blade tomorrow and get some teflon coated ones also.

Thanks again guys.

Edit: Just loaded a fresh blade...doesn't drag along the blade stops. Razor appears to be working just fine. I usually clean my SE blades of the "gunk" on the bottom of the blade after each shave. Since I can't easily take the blade out of this one I rinse it thouroughly under hot water. It seems to take all of the gunk out. It's gotta be the blade.
