Diagonal stropping

I recently got a Kanayama 3 strop and the size is perfect for one of my razors. My Henckels 5/8's fits perfectly across width wise, eliminating an x stroke which I think was one of the main reasons that I nicked my old strop (WD Poor Man's Strop) so much. My other blade a 13/16 Wade & Butcher almost fits perfectly but is slightly wider than the strop itself. Instead of doing a x-pattern and risking nicks, I angle the blade slightly with the heel leading and the edge trailing diagonally on the strop. Does any one else do this to avoid the x-pattern or does it have some negative effect on the edge.

I strop diagonally sometimes, but not like you're talking about. Hmmm, how can I descibe it...

It's sort of like I strop "crooked" in relation to the strop. So if the strop is straight up & down, I am pushing the toe off as I go up, and the heel off as I come back down..
