Determining The Value of A Safety Razor

I have a Gillette Safety Razor of the security (or jailhouse) type. I don't know how to date it, so that is question 1.

I understand that there are a number of these type razors but are lacking the key. I have the key for this one. I would grade the condition of the razor at 90% and the key at 80 to 85% as it has some of the chrome plating worn of at the both ends of the key. The razor is fully functional.

I would appreciate any thoughts on this razor and if it is a collectable item.

It seems to be a fairly popular razor, and I have seen them go for $50-$100, depending on condition. Post pics if you can.

That will presumably be a Tech, and it should have a letter/number date code on the underside of the base plate.

Alligators? I.... um.... you should give the key back to the nice lady...


These are typically called 'psycho' razors, due to their use in institutions. They're fairly collectible, and having a key is a definite plus, since it would seem that they shipped in boxes of 10 with 1 key per box.
