Derby Usta = Derby Extra per Azmusebat Corp. Web Site

Oh come on, now!
The listing says "Derby Extra Razor" and there is a photo of Derby Usta razor blades. No "Derby Usta Extra" on the site or in the catalogue.
Look at the Turkish language version of the page. Under the Urunlerimiz menu item click the Tiras Bicaclari option and you will see Derby Usta Extra for the double edge blades. The English language version you looked at is the one that shows a picture of Usta DE blades titled Derby Extra Blades for the same product listing.

Moved this to a separate thread (link below) as there is a lot of confusing information out there from Derby and it's authorized U.S. importer Kanar. Some specifics:
  • In the domestic Turkish market the Usta appears to have replaced Extra and Premium per multiple sources.
  • As noted above the Azmusebat web site now only shows Derby Usta or Usta Extra blades - no mention of Derby Extra or Premium.
  • On the Derby product web site (separate from Azmusebat site discussed above) the Turkish version only shows Usta product while the English version shows Extra and Premium blades
  • Per the Kanar (email response to inquiry posted on a different shaving blog site) the Usta and Extra blades are the same. The former just rebranded for the local Turkish market.
  • The Global Shave Club blog was also confused: In 2020 they wrote that the Usta are just Bluebird blades made from Swedish steel. A later post in 2021 then claimed that the Usta are different from Extra being made on new equipment from Russian Steel.
  • Back in 2020/21 the Derby catalogs noted that all blades were honed per the latest gothic arch technology. The latest statement for the Usta blades above regarding a new sharpening technology with double polishing may actually just be different marketing language for the exact same thing. Gothic Arch or Cathedral honing just means that after honing the edge at a specific angle you then hone the tip of the edge at a higher angle from the vertical.
After analyzing all these data points a best guess is that the Usta blades are the same as the Extra blades with no differences beyond brand name, marketing copy and packaging. Usta has definitely replaced Extra in the Turkish domestic market. For the U.S. market there is still an open question if Extra and Premium will continue long term or if the message from Kanar is primarily due to the need to sell through lots of slow moving blade inventory.
