Derby Price Jump at Amazon

Back in early April, I bought 100 Derby Extra blades with a stick of Arko thrown in for $14.99 including free shipping. I went to Amazon to see if the deal was still available. The same deal (through Action Packaging Inc.) is still there but the price has jumped dramatically. The exact same deal now costs $33.99 and shipping is not included. I could understand a slight price increase but this almost triples the cost when shipping is included. I'll have to watch and see if they ever reduce the price to near where it used to be. I like the Derby blades, whether horizontal or vertical, as I find them to shave exactly the same. The only blade that I like more would be Iridiums. However, in a Superspeed or an open comb Gillette, the Derby works as well as any other blade I've tried. At $.15 a blade with Arko (the best value in wet shaving) thrown in, it was hard to pass up. I can't see spending $.34 a blade for them though.

Never understood why Derby's were so recommended for newbies. When I first started out I started with Derby's, then tried other blades. Went back to Derby's after my technique had improved and they were still no good.

I would recommend Sharks SC over any other blade for a newbie, but blades are very much a YMMV issue.

shavingfactory.com sells them quite cheap and the more you but the cheaper they are and they have free and quick shipping, there is also a B&B discount code somewhere on the forum here although I forget it now

I got quite a supply from them a few years ago and have no problems with them, just got some new Derby's though with the new vertical labeling and they seem terrible by comparison

The shavingfactory discount code is "BB" I just tried it. It takes $4.50 of a box of 100. It seems tho, that even their price has gone up some.

Try searching derby razor in the search bar on Amazon, I just did it and it showed 100 Derby blades and a stick of Arko for $11.99

I see they have this available again for $11.99 for 100 Derby blades and a stick of Arko. That's a great deal for the blades alone and an outstanding buy when they throw in the Arko.

I'm thinking it might have been a mistake and when they couldn't figure out why sales were slooooow....duh!

+1
I recommend Kais, or Astras or Feathers

Is there a diffeence between the orange labeled Derbys vs the green labeled version?
-Fritz

Orange labeled Derby are the newest production specifically aimed for the North American market. I think they shave smoother than the Vertical Derby, which I had to cork first to make them usable.

They are probably physically the same blades, but being the newest production, hopefully Derby has overcome the issues that plagued the Vertical Derby blades.
