Deerskin strop

I wanted a new strop and I like to tinker with things so this is what happened

The leather is deer skin and needs to be broken in it does not grab but it does not glide eather. The cloth is 100% linen and the black is webbing (note to self webbing does not paste very well )

My grandpa has a deer skin strop mounted to a truck leaf spring . Once a year he pushes a candle into the leather and rubs it with his hand really fast . This heats the leather and pushes the wax into the leather to soften it up . He said it was over 60 years old and still going strong .

I've found the critter doesn't matter. Its the condition of the leather and the way its finished and its quality. That's what really matters.

I am a fan of this strop now that it is broke in it is fabulous.And of course I nicked the darn thing!
