What's new

De89

as a first DE.
decent choice? been reading a bit here, i have bids on a few fatboys an SS's

the DE 89 NEW at about 32-36 buck sounds very promising, what say you?

The DE89 is a fantastic razor. I enjoy using mine everyday. The fit and finish are unmatched. It would be an excellent choice for your first razor.

And The English Shaving Company is offering free shipping right now so the razor would be $27.15 total shipped, this is a great price, and they always include some fantastic samples.

Find them here:

I have the DE89L as well as a Fatboy, Slim and a number of others. The DE89L is one of my very favorite razors. I reach for it often and I don't thnk you could go wrong with one. Not that you won't pick up a few other razors along the way, as well.

jkcerda,

The DE89L is a fine DE razor, as is the Muhle R106/R109; I too am very fond of the vintage Gilllettes - my favourite DE is an 1930s English Gillette 88 open-comb.

You will do well with any of the razors you have mentioned :001_smile

Have fun !

best regards

Russ

Bought an 89L four months ago and it's the only DE I own. Haven't had any desire to pick up another DE yet, except for maybe a straight razor down the line.

Unlike every other razor talked about on this board, I don't think I have ever heard anyone who owns one say anything bad about it.

That ought to tell you something right there.

I got a DE86 as my first DE. The faux ebony handle is VERY nice. Unfortunately I don't really have anything to compare it to and I'm new to DE shaving so I can't comment on how well it shaves either...looks nice though

There's a quote from a British conductor along the lines of when he heard a piece of Verdi he didn't like, the conductor believed it was his fault not Verdi's.

I'm still coming to terms with the DE89L after using open combs for a few months... I'm getting nicks and weepers almost every time I shave with it, but I can always attribute them to failures in my own technique.

I'll persevere until I get things right - it's far too lovely a razor to set aside.

Well, I have the Chatsworth model, I hate the handle. I use the handle off of my R41 and like it much better. This is good because I hate the open comb R41.

Have you then assembled the accursed R41 head to the despised Chatsworth handle? Perhaps two wrongs may make a right?:thumbup1:

Now I really like the R41 - it's part of my regular travel kit along with a Wee Scot and a Palmolive shavestick.

That said, an EJ41L would be nice - more so with a head patterned on the NEW.

thanks guys, decided on that after reading many post here.

Great choice.
I have the Muhle R106 (I believe it has the same head), also a great razor!

I recently purchased the DE89L and love it. Reading about the Edwin Jagger and Muhle razors on B&B I realized that I just had to try them out.

I have used the Merkur HD, Classic, 1904 and a variety of superspeeds and concluded that I liked the Classic and 1904 razors the best. But they can't hold a light to my EJ.

As everyone else has said, the EJ and Muhle razors are excellent razors that you can't go wrong with. The plating is awesome, the weight is nice and I am getting some excellent shaves. Since getting my 89L I acquired an EJ DE87 (ivory handle) from BST and sold off my HD and several of my superspeeds.

The free shipping offer from The English Shaving Company and the favorable exchange rate makes the cost of an EJ about the same, if not less, than the cost of a Merkur!

As far as DE razors I think my RAD has been quenched...

speaking of handles, I might get my bud to make me a Stainless Steel Handle and base for it, saw a pic of the Feather all stainless witha base and got to say that look sweet.

I love my DE89L. Great razor. Use mine every day to every other day. Also have a super speed and a tech with a solid ball handle, but always reach for the DE89.
