What's new

DE hones or non-SR hones.

I don't know exactly which, but have seen them. Actually owned a couple when i had an antiques mall, but had no interest in them at that time.

Where do i find more info? One had a leather disc and a mechanical means to drag it across the blade. The other -looked a bit like a pencil sharpener and folks guessed it to be a some sort of cigarette machine, but i finally figgered it out. Back before i had any interest in these things.

AS the "hones/honing" section is a subset of the "SR" section here, I don't expect to see these discussed there (and i did look, but don't know what to call them).

--oh lookie they're on ebay.

one is called: Twin plex Stropper, the other, Kriss Kross. own neither any more, but wonder if there is any utility to them besides novelty.

I've always wondered if you could use diamond paste or chromium oxide paste on the on the strop to keep blades sharp.

They were mostly for carbon steel blades. Most blades are stainless these days. Carbon blades are not too common anymore. The only brand I know that makes carbon steel DE blades is Treet. Maybe someone could mention another brand or two. It is more difficult to hone/ strop stainless steel.

yeah, it's the novelty of it with p&a of great blades what it is.

things change. back at the time i had no clue i'd ever attempt to shave with a silly ole DE.
