DE guy looking for some Straight assitance.

:biggrin1:
i'm a DE shaver, but received a call from a fellow who wants to sell his straight razor.....Don't even know why I'm even considering it, but in fairness I said I would do some asking to see what it may be worth.

Without seeing the razor he described is as follows:
"King Cutter"
H. Boker & Co. Solingen
He mentioned gold lettering, and something about a tree ?
The handle he describes as a mother of pearl. I'm guessing it is a pearled acrylic of some sort.
He mentioned that he had to original box.

All this taken into consideration (and I haven't seen it in person) what might a fair price for a razor of this description be? Who knows, I may buy it and just flip it here......

any and all assistance is appreciated
Tim

I think we're not supposed to give pricing advice here? I can't remember lol

but, really, without pics to see the condition it's kind of pointless anyway. The same razor that sells for $300 could be passed on at $20 if the condition is bad enough
There's no reason it couldn't really be mother of pearl scales, but again, without seeing.....

This pic might give you some help in dating it, which may or may not be of interest to you:

best advice I can give is: I wouldn't make an offer on any razor from just a verbal description

A King cutter in really nice condition can bring a good amount of money.

A picture would probably be the only way we could give you an accurate assessment of the condition. What some people think is good condition is really not good condition.

Here is an example of one I used to own:

The blade was in very good condition (original scales were broken hence the rescale). The goldwash on this example is a bit faded but clear and visible. Although not important to the function of the razor ideally you'd want very crisp non faded etching/goldwash for the value to be there from a collectors point of view.

I should amend my request to a "PM" only if that is the case........I've never really asked for a price before, so hopefully I haven't made my way to the "naughty list". Thank you btw for the date link. I will check it out in person before I make any offers too! Thanks, Tim...
