DE Blade Come Back?

I was in a local supermarket this evening and noticed they were advertising their Double Edge Safety Razor Blades as an alternative to the Venus Silk since they were priced much lower for a pack of 10.

There were only two things wrong with that.

1) They were priced at $8.99 for a pack of 10.

2) They weren't selling any DE's for the ladies.

I've seen that also in the Cub foods store in our neighborhood. They're stocking the store brand DE blades in the ladies razor section.

More strong-arming from Gillette?

EDIT: They were there before in the men's section, but maybe because of the new Gillette 5 blade cart and the Schick Hydros have forced them out.

I've also noticed DE blades at the local Walgreen's. However, I think they were something like $6.99 for a pack of ten. Ridiculous, but it was still nice to see them available.

CVS also has those ASR blades for a similar price, but they are $2 and change at the local grocery store Publix. I can get several very good shaves from those ASR blades.

Well, I don't know if they're making a comeback but there seem to be shelf space allocated to them in my area. Unfortunately, the pricing is quite high although much lower than a cartridge razor system.

Several months ago, when I first started wet shaving. I purchased a pack of Walgreens blades (repackaged ASR blades). I think I payed $6 bucks for them, and I would rather shave with a dull buck knife after using them!

Just recently picked up a 5 pack of Wilkinson-Sword DE's at Market Basket (local chain grocery store) for $1.19. Decent blades, reasonable price.

Most retail stores I see, usually only have 1 brand of DE blades, if any.

Pretty much every grocery store I go to seems to carry the same DE blades. The ones wiht the cool metal slide out package. The price is way to high though, about 8 bucks for a 10 pack at walgreens and a much more modest 2 dollars at winco foods.

Every retail store that carries DE blades has ASR. It says so on the back of the package. They vary in price, but the cheapest I've found is Wegmans at $2.99. That was the first DE blade I bought, even before I had a razor to put it in.

I work at the PX on a military base, where they carry Exhange Select brand DE blades (10 @ $1.49) and Injector blades (11 in a plastic dispenser @ 2.49.) Both of these are made by ASR also.

I keep a running inventory of the DE blades whenever I go down that aisle. Actually, we sell a lot of them. Apparently, whoever is buying them, is buying lots of packs at one time, because the counts often decrease by double-digits as soon as they come back in stock.

Not Pathmark/A&P - their blades say Made in Korea.
