I have a Norton stone (4000/8000) that I accidentally dropped. The fall produced a small chip in the stone and I am trying to find out if this is a serious issue. If anyone can let me know how to deal with this issue, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Lap it and don't hone from that side. Adjust your x-strokes to not pass the edge over that area.
You'll need to lap it more often because you won't be able to rotate the stone to even out the wear, but eventually the defects will lap out.
It did an okay job flattening my 4k side. I spent the better part of an hour and was never able to completely flatten my 8k side, and it barely touched my Naniwa 12k.
I replaced it with a DMT325 and it takes everything down quickly. A little more work for the Cnat, but it works.
