What's new

Czech and speake

Ive put oxford and cambridge on and it lasted like half an hour.Ive put #88 on and its nearly gone in two hours.I put cuba on and it lasted like 3 hours.I didnt put these on one right after another of course.Does anyone else get this from these colognes?I do only have the samples but i thought that putting a dab beghin each ear, chest and on each wrist would help it stay about. Not impressed.

Cuba lasts nearly 24 hours on me. #88 lasts a while, too. O&C lasts the least amount of time on me, it's my favorite, so that is the one I bought. Not sure where you are applying the cologne, but you could try just sampling these on the back of your hand or wrist to make sure your not just getting used to the scent.

by a dab, do you mean . . . a dab? I don't know anything about Czech & Speake but if they're eau de toilettes you're gonna need more than a dab. if they're not labeled eau de toilette or they're actually eau de parfum then it could be a skin chemistry thing.

as an observation . . . I've noticed a lot of posters here and elsewhere complaining about longevity problems with a slew of different colognes. I'm beginning to think manufacturers are intentionally weakening their juice just so it takes a lot more application to benefit from them, and so you run through it faster and have to buy more. If you aren't disgusted by the longevity problem that is.

They say there colognes. When i say a dab i mean i will put the little sample bottle up behind my ear and press the opening to the skin and tilt it.The same goes with the chest and wrists.Do you know what i mean?

Talk about YMMV!

I have O&C in a spray bottle. At about 8 a.m. I spray it once onto my chest, then rub some of that off onto my wrists, get dressed, and go to work.

At 4:00 in the afternoon I can still smell it on my wrists. At 6:00 in the evening I can still smell it on my chest.

I agree with JaDo that you should try some on the back of your hand to make sure you are not just getting used to these scents.

But otherwise, O&C has a reputation among some, including me, as being short-lived, but I have seen others post or exchange messages with me that they get good tenacity from it. Still a great scent.

I would say that your experience with 88 is pretty unusual. I it not mine for instance, I have seen a bit but relatively little said about 88 lacking tenacity.

Cuba I am not sure about. I find Cuba to evolve a lot (as does 88). It is a very different and more subtle scent 3 hours after application, that is for sure. I cannot say that on me it is gone within 3 hours though.

I like C&S scents a lot, whether they are tenacious or not. They have plenty of umph when first applied!

If you want something kind of like Cuba, sort of in the same spirit perhaps, Aramis Havana has stunning tenancity. I like it more than I do Cuba, but it is in my all time top ten, so that is not saying much.

YMMV, for sure.

I tend to have longevity issues with a lot of frags. Not with Cuba and 88, though. If I put on 88 in the morning I can often still smell it lightly the next morning. Cuba doesn't hang around that long but it does last all day on me.

I've seen other people say they apply samples the way you describe. That doesn't work for me at all. I pour from the sample vial onto my wrist. I'll pick up a bit with my finger and apply it to my throat. With a 1ml sample vial I generally get three applications.

Thanks on the recomendation for aramis. The 88 is a bit more lasting i can still smell it on my wrists but if i were sitting next to someone id doubt theyd smell it,and lets face it we all wear the nice smelling stuff for attraction sake, more than the "oh i like that" reason.Well i do anyway lol
.When i got all the samples i applied a litte to the cardboard just "sniff them out" and they all lasted through out the day.A good day off sniffing lol.Perhaps its just my skin,or im not applying as much as i should.Il keep at seeing that they are fantastic colognes but i doubt id drop the money on them any time soon, both for financial reason and indesicive reasons.

What are you comparing these essential oil based scents to?
If you are using a department store type fragrance as a comparison then that can be an issue. Synthetic fragrances have much longer staying power. Eo based fragrances need to be placed on your skin to develop and bloom, the paper strips are pretty much useless after the first whiff.

The characteristic of being able to smell a fragrance off and away from your body is called sillage.( a french word that means wake of a boat or slipstream, trail) Generally most men are looking for a shallow or moderate to low amount of sillage. I think the dabbing that you are doing is way too little amount of product.
Good luck.

I think my friend meant to say, "Use more product" :lol1:

I agree. I avoid high levels of sillage at all costs. I find the C&S frags to work really well with my body chemistry (fortunately)

#88 lasts forever on me. I am glad it is such a great scent.

+1

I love this stuff and it lasts forever. The Cuba didn't last long at all. Neither did Neroli. Frank and Myrhh did.

I imagine you putting them on one after another had something to do with it not lasting. Probably threw your nose off a bit.

I never put them on one after the other.I can stil smell #88 on me but its faint and id like to be able to walk by a group of people and for them to be able to get a good whiff.

I guess I am not really sure why I wear scents! I really do not know if the scents we tend to talk about around here tend to attract others of one's favored gender or not. What does attract is posed as a question frequently enough, and I do not think a conclusion is much reached, except that it more likely that one of the better known, more popularized scents might be the best shot. Aqua de Gio, perhaps. Don't get me wrong. I am not mocking. I think your reason for weariing scents is a good one. I just do not have any good advice, except not blow up on the sillage.

I do not think that everyone thinks C&S scents are fantastic. I do but even that is hard to explain. Cuba in particular is controversial. I find it hard to believe that as many folks as do like 88. It seems like a difficult scent to me. I am fascinated by it, but I do not wear it often. (O&C seems easy to like, but it does seem kind of ephemeral. I have never bought an enitire bottle of and expensive scent at full retail. I have more decants than anything else, which is good because I am fickle when it comes to scents!)

There are scents that are well-liked on this board that have sillage to spare and tenacity, especially if you use more than most here would recommend. Knize Ten springs to mind, but I am not sure who it would attract as a general matter. I like Issey, even though it may be somewhere between out of date and classic. I mentioned Havana, which you should not take my word on because I like it so much. Actually I am starting think that Green Irish Tweed is strong stuff, but has a knack for becoming invisible to its wearer.

I am way out of the game, so what do I know. Maybe that speaks well of Glasgow.

Glasgow still hopping as I remember it from a few years ago? Pretty vibrant night life there. And some folks like "fat chicks"!
