Customs Issue for Shavemac Order?

Hi all,

Based upon the months of reading and re-reading the great articles and discussions here, I decided to purchase a Shavemac 177...

I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival here in Dallas, Texas, but to my chagrin I just spoke with Fedex and apparently they say the package was held up by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. What's more surprising is that the fedex rep informed me I may need a license to import a badger brush into the US!

Has anyone dealt with this issue before? I'm going to call the US Fish and Wildlife Service tomorrow, but I don't know what to say/expect. Meanwhile my brush languishes in a fedex holding facility... Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Matt

I have ordered maybe 4 brushes from overseas (two shavemacs) and have not encountered one problem whatsoever. I trust you will get your package in due time, the US fish and wildlife office is prob using it a lil bit before they release it to you! :biggrin1:

Don't worry...that's normal. Bernd does all the paperwork on his end. it stays with USWF for a few days and once cleared(which is always), it comes to you in a jiffy

I've had this happen on my orders from him (several occasions)

Hang in there...nothing to worry about

I had the same thing happen to my D01. It was held up a few days and then arrived safe and sound. License? License?? You don't need no stinkin' license for no stinkin' badgers!

Thanks for all the replies, I feel much better.

So I supposed I don't need to call the Service tomorrow? I only ask because the fedex rep asked me what was in the package, I told her, she made a declaration and submitted it to the US Fish and Wildlife Service and then told me I should call them.

I didn't call them. I figured the Fish and Wildlife folks would check it out and send it on. They did, and I'm positive they just read the labeling and didn't even open the package. Hopefully, that will be your experience as well.

It is my understanding that this applies only to vendors and distributors but does not apply for personal use (I could be mistaken). If you do need the Fish and Wildlife permit, it will be a very expensive brush. The license is around $100.00 but there is also a flat rate fee of $180.00 per shipment plus a tax on the value of the brushes. For one brush expect a total fee of around $300.00 including the license.

a $300+ brush is just right over my limit :001_rolle

Hopefully it does all go well, and thanks again for the info

I'll update the thread if and when the brush arrives.

Members have sometimes reported their brushes being detained by customs. Don't worry about it - I have never heard of a member who had to pay extra. Unfortunately, customs does seem to take their sweet time about it, which is tough when you're hankering to use your new brush!

Have myself right now four Shavemac knots sitting in Memphis in "delayed clearance" - not sure what this means, but it is the first time. All other deliveries from Shavemac came within five days to a week and the package was never opened.....Hope they come through without paying the Fish and Wildlife fees:w00t:. Maybe it has to do with the bomb issues we had two weeks ago on courier planes:mad3:

If I busy myself inspecting shaving brushes, I am unavailable to inspect packages containing potentially dangerous items.:mad3:

Package finally arrived last week -- very happy with the #177 I ordered, and ready to get another Shavemac. Did take forever to get here though.

I had a Shavemac delivered to my house, and THEN FedEx called me to say they had forgotten to pass it through customs, and could they come by and pick it back up! Seriously, this is what happened. I kept getting calls from FedEx, and then the fish and wildlife guys. No way I was going to let them reposess my Shavemac! I ignored their calls for a couple of weeks and they apparently had better things to do than chase after shave brushes, and the calls stopped.
Sure you can have my shave brush.. WHEN YOU PRY IT FROM MY COLD DEAD FINGERS!:w00t:

I live in Canada and have ordered 3 Shavemac's from Germany and have never had any problems with customs before. I get my tracking info from Shavemac and my brushes are delivered in 4-6 days by FedEx.
