The aftershave tonic is your typical alcohol splash but has an amazing scent that when applied to the skin reminds me quite a bit of YSL Rive Gauche PH. A true classic barbershop scent. The soothing aftershave lotion is more like a balm or milk..... somewhere in between, and is unscented. It is a very moisturizing balm since it contains oils.... so it may not be for you if you have oily skin. It goes on light, but will leave your skin heavily moisturized.

Now, I'm sorry to see that within the past couple days WCS upped the price on these two items.... as they had been selling them for less than full retail price, but now they are at full retail. Still, at $30 for the tonic and $24 for the balm, they are well worth it IMO.

The packaging is awesome. The tonic comes in a dark amber (almost black) old school glass bottle with a metal screw top cap and a plastic reducer to minimize/eliminate spillage. The balm comes in a dark amber plastic squeezable bottle. The labels are black with silver lettering..... and strike me as very retro and cool. The label reads:

"For Vagabonds, Gentlemen, and Ruffians"

I guess all of us fit in there somewhere :001_cool: .

I was planning to pick up some Crown Shaving Co pre-shave and shaving cream from my local barber tomorrow. Now you've got me thinking I should pick up some aftershave too...arrrrgh! Somebody stop me! :)

I've been slowly working through a bottle of the balm, and it's one of the best balms out there (and I've tried A LOT of them). Great ingredients... extremely similar ingredient list to Gilbert Henry and Wm Neumann.

I've been planning on getting the splash with my next order from WCS. Of course I waited too long and the price goes up.

Ben, whats the longevity of those?

Sorry I haven't replied sooner.... it's been a busy couple of days. By longevity, I assume you mean the longevity of the scent? The balm is unscented..... so really I guess you mean the longevity of the scent of the aftershave tonic. It's very good for an aftershave splash. Lasts a few hours..... although it's not a strong scent like a cologne or EDT. It lasts much longer than most of my splashes..... and the only few splashes I can think of right now that the longevity of the tonic is similar to would be Polo Green aftershave splash, Santa Maria Novella splashes, T&H Grafton and Spanish Leather splashes, and Guerlain Vetiver or Habit Rouge splashes.

It's a very barbershoppy scent and it is wonderful IMHO. Both products are very effective and soothing.

I'm waiting on a bottle of tonic in the mail, and I was wondering about others' impressions of it. Very reassuring!

Here is what is in the tonic:
Denatured alcohol, purified water (aqua), parfum, polysorbate 20, Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) distillate, Glycerin, Azadirachta (Neem) oil, pimenta racemosa (bay rum) essential oil, bergamia (bergamot) essential oil, pimpinella anisum (anise seed) essential oil

My barber uses the tonic after their neck clean up and the smell is incredible, very soothing as well. I'm absolutely picking up a bottle after my next cut. Hope you enjoy it too!
