Creams vs Soaps

I'm just looking for your preferences and why you have them. I've been using primary creams but am thinking about trying a few soaps. I'm curious as to if I should expect anything different or not.

Just another YMMV thing, creams tend to be thicker and provide more cushion while soaps are slicker, theres always exceptions.

Have you tried mixing a super lather? Mix up a soap lather and then add a dab of whatever cream you'd like. Makes a really nice lather. :001_tongu :001_rolle

IMO soaps provide slightly closer shaves and are a much better value. Creams feel more luxurious on the face though.

As a newbie, I think it's easier for to make a consistent quality lather with cream. I haven't shaved with soap for a while because I'm on a Bigelow kick right now, but the times when I've used soap and gotten the lather right have given me my best, most comfortable shaves.

Most creams either irritate my skin or dry it out. Most soaps don't, so I use soaps. Soaps tend to have a milder fragrance, fewer ingredients, and no potentially harmful preservatives like parabens in them. They also last a long time and have a great shelf life. I also just have more fun using soaps. They're a little more challenging.

i use soaps because they work better for me and are a better value. i have tried tons of different creams and soaps. after all the trial and error and $ spent i have become a huge fan of mamma bears soaps.

I find creams easier to work with but soaps give you a better end result... As mentionned up here and, YMMV, of course!

While this is true but the exceptions would be Tabac, Proraso Green and Proraso White! I use these soaps the most and love them. As for the Proraso Green soap and cream feel the same for slickness and cushion and White is just a pleasurable experience that everyone should try at least once! Tabac on the otherhand is one of the best soaps ever, alot more cushion then any cream I have ever used and a great overall slickness..

Cheers,

I enjoy em both.. One thing i have noticed though is that my passes go through a bit of a change.
I will do 2 passes ATG with a soap while only doing 1 pass with the cream..

I use creams 80% of the time and at the moment my shaving software has gone a bit mad and to afraid to count how many creams/soaps i have to use, though for some reason i do seem to buy more creams the soaps i have used seem to be as good, i do though seem to get a better lather from a good cream.

I get closer, slicker, smoother shaves with soaps. I get only cushion with creams.
