Creams/Soaps with Fragrance...why Bother?

From my experience it seems the majority of the soaps/creams I have tried over the years lose their unique smell by the time I use Withch Hazel then after shave....(one exception that comes to mind is Tabac)

Starting to put less emphasis on fragrances these days.....

Anyone have the same feeling?

I like scented creams and soaps in the morning. I actually like them more now than a few years ago. It gets my senses going in the a.m.

I love how the smell fills the room in the mornings.Take away the scent,it would not be an as enjoyable experience. In my opinion.

I find that the scent of the soap sets me up for the day. It is part of my newly found ritual.

Shaving was a necessary evil that was completed as quickly as possible. Now it is time to spend on me, which includes the soap scents

Definitely disagree. Fragrance is very important. I have a container of Barc here and while it's an excellent shave cream it gets very little use (maybe 6-8 times) for the simple fact it has no scent.

They do lose their scent after the shave. The fragrance is there to make the shaving process itself more enjoyable! Also, you can feel free to use scents that you enjoy but might be offensive to others. Again, Tabac could be a good example...

It's all about the scent....and all about that moment. Aftershave scents aren't meant to last a long time either although some do. AS is for conditioning, repaing the skin. You have to go to a cologne if you are purely interested in a long term scent.

Partly. I agree with other posters that scent is for the shave itself but after using a lot of different soaps I get the feeling that a fair number of (established) soapmakers just don't do it right. Too much of it and often not really well balanced; a lot of soaps start to annoy me because of their scent when I use them a week or more in a row. On a daily basis I prefer the simple soapy/lemony scents much more. There are a few exceptions but usually the strong scented soaps start boring me in just a couple of shaves.

Can't imagine going back to the same smelling lather every day. The thought of a different shave experience helps get me out of bed in the morning.

I don't want to walk around all day smelling like sandalwood, fresh mint, or almond. But I love it in the morning and can't imagine life without it.

I agree with this, Talibeard.

I lately have preferred unscented or soap-scented soaps. If I want a scent I can use a cologne at the start of the shave.

I'm reading this post some 12 hours after my shave. When I touch my hand to my face and scalp then sniff my fingers I can still smell the Tabac. During the day, I would catch the random scent as well. The AOS i used last week had the same affect.

I'm not sure why your not getting any benefit from the fragance but I sure as hell am, and am loving every minute of it.

I can't imagine shaving with anything that was unscented.

Half the fun for me is deciding which cream or soap to use, then sniffing up a storm while I'm lathering it up.

I have a good selection of soaps and creams. I like almost all of them. Getting to choose a scent in the morning to match my mood helps make the day even better.
