Cream for travel

I'm going to be doing a bit of traveling toward the end of January and I'll need to travel light so no strops, scuttles, etc. I shave with a straight so I'm planning on taking a Feather artist and some spare blades but want a cream that I can ideally get a decent shave from without a brush. The ritual will go: shower, moisten face, apply cream with hands, shave.

Any suggestions welcome.

Oh, and please don't suggest that I take more stuff. I really don't have room and both size and weight are an issue (self contained on a bike) so razor, cream and spare blades is all I'm gonna take.

My wife uses Derby cream on a regular basis. I've had some decent shaves with it but prefer hard soaps. Definitely stay away from the Burts Bee's.

I recently came back from a few months traveling around Thailand, Vietnam etc.. I took a tube of Proraso with me and it served me well! Especially in the tropical heat.
Nice and compact to fit in my small travel wash bag.

Erasmic is smaller still.

Any tube of "brushless" cream wold most likely take up more room and weigh more than part of a shave stick + a wee scot. Another option would be to bring a puck of shave soap and lather it in your hair when you shower, this is assuming you will have access to a shower and have hair.

Kiss My Face has tubes that fit easily in the dopp kit and give a great shaves with or without a brush.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've got a tube of Proraso that I usually lather with a brush and bowl. I'll try just rubbing it on my face to see how it works. I was also thinking of the kiss my face so I may pick up a tube of that and try it as well.

More suggestions welcome.

Ya, Kiss my face is really good. I don't think it's a brush cream, but it work for me when I use it with out a brush. (I haven't done it that many times.) It did seem a bit thick but your using a straight...

Nancy Boy. They sell Travel size jars 2oz I think, and it works very well as well... Comes in three different scents... Cheap to. I think you can buy all three travel sized jars for like 17 bucks? And if you sign up for membership you get a discount as well.

Might want to look into Creamo. I haven't ever used it, but I have read a lot off people say it's super slick. And cheap. Maybe buy it before the trip try it out. And see if it works out for you.

I wouldn't recommend that. It's meant to be lathered, but maybe you just meant that you would rub it on and face lather? At the very least, try this method out on a section of whiskers at home and see how it goes. If it doesn't work you'll save yourself being stuck on the road with a method that perhaps doesn't work.

I'll second the idea of using a wee scot (or whatever brush you have) and a shaving stick for face lathering. It's a tried and true method and won't consume much space.

a Wee Scot in a small carrying tube takes up almost no space and you will be glad you took it after a few days of trying to make a decent lather without a brush

Have you thought about going without shaving for the time you're gone? I love my shaving, but if space and/or weight requirements dictated that I do not have the ability to bring my Omega Mighty Midget and a small (1/2 stick of Arko) shave stick with me, I'd go without the shaves.

I hadn't really thought about getting a smaller brush but it's a good idea! I've got an old boar bristle that came with a mug I bought in an antique store that's not too big so I might try that but I do like the look of the Wee Scot!

I've thought about it but some of my trips are a couple of weeks long and, especially if I'm cycling, after a couple of days I feel so scruffy I can't stand it.

The general consensus seems to be to use cream in a tube (KMF) with a small brush so I think that's what I'm going to try. As Taylor suggested, I'll give whatever I end up with a run through at home to see how it works beforehand.

Thanks all for the suggestions!

Quite frankly, I'm not finding a huge difference in outcomes between applying a regular cream with a brush and applying a bit more of that cream, and just using my fingers to massage it in while splashing some drops of water on it in the process. The American brushless creams I've tried have been pretty average compared to the Australian ones. I suggest you experiment with your current creams and see which you can get to work best by just using your fingers.

Renato
