Covalt and Smith No. 122

Hi,

I have lurked for a little while and now decided to jump into the discussion. I have been mulling over the decision to begin straight razor shaving and looking at some complete kits at straightrazordesigns.

Well one of my coworkers told me he had picked up a razor at an estate sale.

It is a Covalt and Smith No. 122 it says "German Make" and Pittsburg Pa.

All I can find on this company is that it was a barber supply company in the late 1800's to early 1900's.

Has anyone here come across one of these before? Any idea on the value? Just a ballpark figure if I was to make an offer.

I am at work so I cannot post a picture right now. I will try to get one up soon. It appears to be in good condition with little wear. I see only a very very tiny speck of surface rust. The edge looks uniform with no chips.

Any help would be appreciated.

It's all about the condition. I bought a NOS Covalt and Smith No. 122 from a very well respected restorer in perfect condition and shave ready. I gave $84 for it plus shipping.

It's one of my favorite razors.

I have a Covalt & Smith that I restored to near perfect shape. It has cracked ice scales and the word "DUZ" is engraved on the front scale. I would like to know more about this maker. I have pics of the "DUZ" if anyone wants to see them. Thanks!!!

That was my great-grandfather's business. He retired early at 54 in 1929 and liquidated the business right before the stock market crash in October of that year. Talk about timing...
