I've been wet shaving now for about two weeks and I'm still trying to figure some things out. I have a Merkur 180 long handle which I got off of Amazon and I think it's ok. How will the Merkur compare to a Gillette Super Speed 1956 Blue tip? I just bought one and am waiting for it to come in the mail. Any input would be appreciated.

I am not sure about the 180 , but I have a 38c that I use once in a while. The blade angle on the Merkurs seem to have a slightly more aggressive angle of the blade than the Gillette. You can get a great shave from either razor , but you will have to adjust the angle of the razor a bit when switching from one to the other..
I have a blue tip and used it only a few times and just think it's too mild. Super speed is also a mild shaver but i liked it better. I found a few nice red tip gillettes and that is a much better shave if you can find one.
Hey, I'm in the same boat as you. I shaved about a year with the 23c and recently bought a blue tip. Before the Blue Tip I thought the Merkur was a mild shaver but in comparison with the Blue Tip it is way more aggressive. Like what has been said in a previous post, it has to do with the more aggressive blade angle of the Merkur. I think the Blue Tip is one of the mildest shavers in the world. I do like it actually but I need more passes to get it smooth in comparison with the merkur but that's no problem. It's great to have them both!
