Clubman Vanilla- tell me I did the right thing

I just placed an order with Drugstore, and included a bottle of Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla. I love love LOVE Clubman's Aftershave Lotion (in case you can't tell, I like it), and was heartened by the fairly positive reviews. After all, four out of five stars out of eighteen reviews isn't something to sneeze at.

However, the negative reviews were all over the place! One said it smelled like insect repellent, another said it didn't smell at all like vanilla, so I had no idea what to think. I figured, "Six bucks, what the heck?" and threw it in my cart. If I like it, great cheap aftershave; I'll throw a half-dozen drops of glycerin into it and call it a day. If I hate it, I'm only out six dollars/clams/buckarinos/semolians.

Pinaud Clubman generally has a good reputation, Clubman Shampoo aside. Has anyone else used the vanilla aftershave? Did you love it? Hate it? Want to cheat on your spouse with it? Please, don't be shy, share with the class!

I'm a big fan of the whole Clubman line, so I think you did the right thing.I love the scent! If you don't care for it let me know and I'll take it off your hands LOL

I own three Pinaud Clubman aftershaves: Original, Special Reserve and Classic Vanilla. My order of preference is exactly as just listed, but it's mainly due to scent not performance which I find excellent on them all.

It is a tie between Special Reserve and the Vanilla for me. I have the Musk, Bay Rum, the Veg, Special Reserve, Vanilla and Original. I am a huge Pinaud fan.

I have the 6oz bottle of Classic Vanilla and it a great scent. I have the 12oz bottle of VI Bay rum, and I only wish that the bottle sizes were swapped. I tend to reach for the Vanilla over the Bay Rum. I hope that you like it!

I have Cubman, Vanilla, and Musk that I like. I have SR that I haven't been able to warm up to yet.

Vanilla doesn't smell like vanilla. It is a little sweeter than Clubman (IMO). The smell doesn't seem to linger quite as long as Clubman.

I'm sure you will like it. It's not a very "confrontational" smell like some of the others that you either like or you don't (Lilac Vegetal, Special Reserve, Lime Sec).

I also have the clubman vanilla, and to me there is a faint smell of vanilla and it is without doubt in my top 3 scents but the clubmann range is hard to get over here so i use it sparingly.

You did well. I love the vanilla (even though it smells nothing like vanilla). It's a little harsh smelling at first but mellows out nicely.

I've used it and I like it. It's more mellow than the regular, good scent for day use, e.g. at the office or at church.
I'm back with a large bottle of regular Clubman right now, but I'll be getting the Vanilla again at some point in the future.

You did the right thing.

I dont know why its even got vanilla on the bottle, i cant pick it up at all.

Dont judge it from sniffing from the bottle either, it changes once on.

Ive had alot of compliments when i wear it.

Outstanding! A slight hint of vanilla is fine, as long as it's still pleasant. I get a hint of vanilla from Old Spice, and without doubt that is my favorite aftershave. Gotta say, I'm mighty reassured now!

Clubman Vanilla is a nice Spring/Summer light scent without a whole lot of staying power.

If Special Reserve is the cigar chomping, jocular old gent in the slightly tatty leather chair at the Clubman family reunion, Vanilla is the pleasant but unassuming cousin wearing a pastel sports coat who doesn't stick around too long.

As others have said, it does not smell much like vanilla. Actually, I would have to say that only once have I ever even gotten a slight whiff of vanilla when wearing it. To me it smells more of citrus than vanilla, think a high, sharper smell rather than a sweet round one.

This one has taken a while for me to get into and for me it still lags behind Clubman and the Special Reserve, BUT it is still worth $6 to find out and I must say that it is growing on me and it may grow on you too.

It was probably my thread that noted the insect repellent . With that being said, I do not regret my purchase one bit! I love Clubman, and even though it smelled horrible on me, I know another person will love it.
